I am in Pacifica this evening for work tomorrow. Took a walk/hike after the smoke to the edge of this beach.

Been on a MacBaren's Vanilla Creme Flake bender lately. Nice smoke after a shave, for example.
Virginia and cavendish stand out with a pleasing but low-key trace of vanilla in the background - not really an aromatic in my book. The room note probably wouldn't piss anyone off who isn't, otherwise, hopeless. Bought 14 tins the other day at $7.22 with free freight. See how it ages, I guess. I might smoke two or three tins/year.

Thanked: 1185Having become a cheap bastar...ur...I mean frugal gentleman, I seldom treat myself to a brand spanking new pipe but I came home to find my end of semester reward, a brand new Missouri Meerschaum General. Of course of loaded it with classic American burley (Old Joe Krantz) This thing is massive! I should be puffing on this for a couple minutes as it takes about half an ounce of tobacco to fill. Hands down the largest cob I've ever encountered.

Thanked: 1185So here's the initial assessment: I sat on the lanai and smoked for about an hour and I doubt I reached the half bowl mark. The smoke was predictably pretty good although in my experience cobs tend to smoke better after they've been thoroughly used and abused. OJK is always a safe bet and certainly my go to tobacco. But as most of you know, occassionally a new pipe screams out for a certain tobacco. This one just screams GRANGER to me. I'll have to put in for a tub of "the dog" very soon. If you've not sampled Granger by all means do yourself a favor. This is one of the few remaining vestiges of the golden age of pipe smoking (it really is the Clubman AS of the pipe smoking world, absolutely old school!) If you're really into old school hybrids, try mixing this 50/50 by weight with Five Brothers. PS: Yeah, Granger is a drug store blend but it sure is good! PPS: For $20 a tub (12 ounces) it's probably the best value in pipe tobacco anywhere www.bnbtobacco.com/granger/
