I really like 965, it has more or less become my daily smoke. I need to order a lb or 2 next time I put in an order.

I'll have to find a sample of engine 99, sounds like an interesting smoke.

Not sure where you get your 965 but smokingpipes.com has bulk Dunhill and also bulk Cornell & Diehl, free shipping for orders over $100.

Quick question for you guys. I have been getting goo at the bottom of my pipes lately regardless of blend or moist tobacco. Would it be my smoking cadence? No gurgling and i cant keep the end of the pipe lit because of it, results in lots of dottle.

If it's regardless of blend or high moisture content in tobacco, my guess would be packing, smoking or even if all of a sudden you are smoking with your pipe constantly in your mouth.

As you have mentioned 965, it is a very long fine cut tobacco that can be packed in the pipe too tightly very easily. As the old saying goes fill your pipe first with the hands of a child, then a women's hands and only finish with a man's. Too loosely packing can cause your pipe to burn too hot, so it is kind of like pressure while stropping-not too much and not too little.

Smoking too quickly can also add to a buildup of goo in the bottom of a pipe. Perhaps just slow down a little and after the initial light, just sip the smoke.

When I smoke outside while I'm working around the house, my pipe never leaves my mouth and it is the only time that I am unable to smoke a bowl completely. I think by having it in your mouth always lends to spittle working it's way down to the tobacco and making that goo, especially when your concentrating on what your doing and not on your smoking.

    Good luck.

I had bad smoke last night that included all of the above mentioned. Pipe lighted fine then in got wet and gross gurgling and it got stuck twice. The tobacco tasted like s..t and It was not good to the last drop as they say. What might be going on here. I usually smoke on my porch so is the weather screwing me maybe a bad packing job or is it time to really clean my pipe.

I have had the same problem with what I was assuming was wet weather, though more drying and slower smoking helped with the gurgling. The goo or resin build up is new and must do more research tonight

Cool Autumn afternoon in Iowa, overcast and 53 degrees... Just right...

All the farmers are bringing in the beans and corn, making the air quality suck... So I guess it's my turn...
