the songs of years past are probably from their personal experiences, and the ones of today are from Salomone els's mind or a previously recorded song sung by a "new artist"

I respectfully disagree. Neil's song about which you commented is indeed from personal experience, commenting on the premature death of a friend from an overdose of heroin. But to suggest that artists no longer sing about personal experience discounts many, many talented artists in all genres who do just that. There is - always has been and likely always will be - a certain amount of over-produced, mass-manufactured music out there, but don't lose heart! your right, i probably should had added a modifier about it pertaining the the mass marketed music because yes , your right a lot that still do sing from experience.
