Favorite Vintage TV Show(s) and Why?
Just thought I'd start this one up ... you can probably guess, given my profile pic that I am an old TV and Movie fan.
I guess some of my favorites include Andy Griffith (great barber in that one, to boot), Leave It To Beaver, and the Honeymooners ... what's wrong with TV shows portraying idealic lifestyles ... it may not be fully realistic, but also gives us something to aspire to.
However, in the interest in going a little bit away from the all-time populars ... I'll throw out there "Get Smart" and "The Wild Wild West" ... I think both of those shows went into new and creative directions, and were not just entertaining and popular, but pretty well done from a production quality perspective. In addition to the first three I mention above, Get Smart, in particular, also seems to hold up pretty well for today's youngsters.
Once, and if, the thread gets going, I'll throw out some more obscure programs that may be far less well known ... feel free to do the same.

I'm much older ... my Saturday favs were Warner Bros. cartoons (Bugs & Daffy), Space Ghost and Woody Woodpecker. All the old classic movie theatre cartoons were pretty funny ... even the more obscure ones.

Thanked: 43In re-runs when I was a kid, The Wild, Wild, West was one of my favorites. They always came up with clever ways to take old, west technology and have Artemus Gordon tweak it with a modern flair. The cinematic re-make has made me dislike Will Smith ever since.
On Saturday mornings nothing beat Looney Tunes.
EDIT: I just read on IMDB that Will Smith turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix to star in the horrific re-make of Wild, Wild, West. Wow.Last edited by joscobo; 09-10-2010 at 09:58 PM.

I used to love the Saturday morning cartoons. "Mighty Mouse" was proabably my favorite. Escept for "Howdy Doody" which wasn't a cartoon.

Thanked: 16Classic television has always been a favorite pastime of mine. I'm glad a lot of the old classics are being released on DVD, but they aren't being released at a pace I'd like to see. Anyway, here's a few of my favorites...
Green Acres - Only 3 seasons have been released so far, but I WANT the rest (C'mon MGM!). You would be hard-pressed to find a more surreal comedy. The cast was great, and the writing was top-notch. My DVD's get constant play.
Hogan's Heroes - Excellent cast with good writing. 6 seasons. All are available on DVD. John Banner as Schultz was a scene stealer.
The Odd Couple - Tony Randall and Jack Klugman gave us 5 seasons of some of the best laughs and story lines in TV history. No show had better one-liners, and the chemistry between Oscar and Felix was totally believable. Some scenes make me believe it must have been nearly impossible for either of them to keep a straight face, but they did it.
The Outer Limits - It TERRIFIED me when I was a kid; the monsters and special effects are almost laughable now, but I still like to watch it. I guess the appeal was that it was a show that made you wonder about fantastic things and concepts, something all good science fiction does.
The Invaders - 2 seasons, available on DVD (I've got to get them!). Roy Thinnes plays an architect who witnesses and alien spacecraft landing, and then is on the run from them, trying to convince everybody about the threat.
There are others; I'll be back!
