Don,
Priceless moments
The first and only time my son shot my 0.45 ACP pistol (a Shield customised Springfield Defender - BarSto Barrel, Nastoff hammer & sear, Ed Brown beaver-tail, BoMar sights, throated, ported etc) was just before the pistol ban came into force in the UK.
We went to Stone Lodges Ranges (now demolished) in Dartford with the 0.45, my Shield custom 0.38 Spl PPC revolver & my HiStandard Citation 0.22LR, and we had ourselves a priceless morning
Remembering that morning still makes me smile to this day !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

It's fun to take our sons shooting, huh? Both my boys got both shotgun and rifle merit badges at Scout Camp, and both were best-in-camp marksmen by their targets on the rifle range. I'd like to think that part of that was my helping them take the time to learn about body and breath control, sight picture, a smooth swing and follow-through with the scatter-gun, etc.
I have trusted both my boys with loaded pistols since they were about 8. My youngest still likes to get out my 9 mm and clear it, take it down, and put it back together (under my supervision, of course). Probably our favorite form of shooting is to plink at potatoes with high-velocity 22 hollow-points. Instant mashed potatoes, and biodegradable! There are many roads to sharp.

I still remember the first time I shot a .45 cal handgun. The slide came back and cut the top of my hand, I had the tell tale rail road tracks across my hand. It was an old military issue.. 45's are now my favorite handgun...Kimber is a fine weapon. I just picked up a Springfield XD compact.....45 of course....
We have assumed control !

That's good. Have to train the next generation to keep the shooting sports alive. All 4 of my kids and my wife shoot.

Boy, I'm glad there are some, make that a lot of guys just like me.
I had my boys in their high chair cleaning my guns with me,and learning how to handle them safely,If daddy shows you the gun isnt loaded, what do you do? Check it yourself.
that was lesson one. I had my boys in Fla where you can rent machine guns and had the big one (6"4 at 16) shoot an Uzi,and .44 mag, just for fun,the big surprise was the little one emptied the Uzi with almost all shots on target at 25 yards, and both handled the .44 as well as most men I know. It was priceless. Keep them shooting boys
Griz
P.S. Rick is 21 now and 6foot 7,my .45 looks like a toy,and the "little one" is 16 and six foot 4 try finding shoes for something like them!!!Last edited by Grizzley1; 11-02-2010 at 02:42 AM. Reason: A PS

all the father son stories are great but lets not forget the father daughter shooting stories
while I admit I haven't taken my daughter to the range with a firearm that uses gunpowder yet I have taught her with .177 and .22 cal air rifles and I couldn't have been prouder than when I saw that first bullseye...now I just have to convince her mom that she's old enough for real firearms

Thanked: 101Kids and Guns...
I started shooting when I was 6. I started my daughter when she was 4 and my son when he was 4. My daughter has a Stevens single shot .22 and both her and her brother Caleb have a H&R Topper .410 they "share". .410 shells are expensive, and on the last outing my daughter Erin ran through a whole box of them! I need to start reloading for the .410. I reload for the 12 and 20, but not the .410. They have yet to shoot pistols....Soon.
