Thanked: 1185Ah yes, Coors east of the Mississippi and you were indeed the man. Shortly after my 18th birthday I moved out west and drank Coors like it was my job for about a year and a half (just because I could). Then the novelty wore off (it wasn't near as cool when it was available everywhere)
The older I get, the better I was

I remember my cousin loading up the trunk of his car with cases of Coors and heading home to Florida. From what I understand, this more than paid for his trip!

Thanked: 20I could probably write pages about the subject, but i will refrain.
My new favorite beer seems to be one that is hard to find, at least here in Marylandistan. Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale. If anyone has not tried this and finds it for sale it is worth the $$.
If you have a quality beer store anywhere near you that will allow you mix and match 6packs that is always a great way to go about sampling different manufacturers and styles.
Also, do not knock hoppy beers of first sip. Just like most drinks/foods with strong complex flavors, it takes awhile for ones taste buds to mature.

Thanked: 2try as many different styles you can find to hone in on your favorite style, then try different producers of that style and compare. in idaho you should be able to find different beers from Sierra Nevada and also New Belgium Brewery practically everywhere you go.

Thanked: 0I just had the new Sam Adam's Revolutionary Rye. While I find most of their products to be pretty blah, this one is a winner. It might be my favorite Sam Adams ever. I'm not sure if it's classified as an IPA but it has a nice rye flavor and a big hop finish. If you can find it try it.

Thanked: 5+1 to checking out beeradvocate.com. If you click on the "beer 101" link on the left side of the page there are links to learn about nearly every facet of beer and beer paraphernalia.

I think I'm going to have to contradict all the advice on finding a brew pub or microbrewery beer that you like. I would first find a beer from a larger name brand (coors, budweiser, miller, or something similar) that I like and is available everywhere you go. I dont know how much you travel but when you do you probably wont be able to find your favorite microbrew. I'm not saying that I dont enjoy microbrews, quite often actually, but sometimes you reallly just want to enjoy a beer you know you will like rather than experimenting with a beer you've never heard of before.
then again sometimes it is nice to try a beer you never even heard of just because you can.
