Had my first scotch last night, a nice Johnny Walker black. I thoroughly enjoyed it and must say I prefer it leaps and bounds over bourbon.
No that pistol isn't the only thing under my kilt, but I can tell you both of them work just fine

It's a great scotch. Don't let the single malt purists tell you otherwise. JWB was my first scotch, too. Playing cards and drinking beer and that in the basement of Schlöss Mittersill was good times.
It's still the only scotch I keep on hand. I keep a fifth of that, Sailor Jerry, and Jameson in the safe. None of them top shelf but they're solid, good tasting drinks to have around.

Well for new years I decided to open and share a bottle of Balvenie 15 year single barrel. I really enjoyed this one (but I enjoy them all). This scotch is aged in 1 oak bourbon cask for it's whole life. To the nose vanilla, honey, smokey oak. Taste to me was peppery, smokey, subtle vanilla, with a touch of fruit not overly sweet on the palate. The finish was nice and long with almost a caramel touch.
This is a good scotch for the money in my eye and worth a try. The bottle I got was a little over $50 (which seems to be about the standard for the 15 single barrel) I did share it with several non scotch drinkers and tried to educate them on drinking scotch before we embarked. I am not sure they all appreciated it but I know a couple of them enjoyed.

I have always enjoyed Haig & Haig's Pinch. I think it came in 12 year old when I started drinking it. I think it's up to 18 now.
