    Default Tablets/E-readers?

So I'm looking at possibly purchasing a low end tablet or color e-reader. I'm a sucker for a good book but with three young kids an e-reader seems like an awefully nice idea. Especially a color one so that I can let the kids mess around.
I have an iTouch that I've had for a few years that mostly sees use by the kids these days.
An iPad, while nice, is out of the question unless I can find one in good shape for under $200.
Right now I'm looking at picking up either an HP Touch Pad off the bay/craigslist, a B&N Nook Color (which is nice in its own right but the ability to hack and make it run android apps is nice),
or possibly a Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire looks nice, especially the video ability but I'm also driving from VA to OK at the end of the month so I'd like to purchase something by then for entertainment use by the kids if things get rough.
Last time we did the drive we only had two kids and one was too young to care about the iTouch so the eldest got to watch two movies each way on it. I don't want them to rely on it but we're doing it straight through each way and there are times it comes in darn handy.
This time we're also piling all three kids in to my Volvo S60 because while the back seat is slightly smaller than the wife's crapolier, the trunk is larger, the ride is comfier, and best of all, I have a roof rack and a box for it for junk to go in en route.

Any recommendations one those or some of the other lower end android tablets?

Honestly, if you can deal with the screen size, I think using the iTouch or other similar device is the best option. I have an Android, and I've read a few books off it. I like that I can use the Kindle app or load up another app to read any epub's I can find.

Most people's response is that the screen is too small, but I like it cause I can read anywhere and it's always with me. Sure, you turn the pages more often, but the text is the same size, so it's not really any harder to read. Plus it's a device I already had, and it can do so many other things.

I love my kindle. They haves new one which is touch.

If you want color, touchscreen, and wink. Nook may he your best option. Especially with the option to root

By all means, if you're looking for color get either a Nook or a Kindle Fire.

I've owned a regular Kindle since last spring and can't get enough of it. In fact, I plan to take it with me when I travel soon.

I'm another in the Kindle camp.
While I have Ipads and other similar products, nothing beats a Kindle for reading books. IMO.
Be it on the beach, on a plane or in bed it works great and has battery capacity any iPad or other tablets can only dream about.
The new Fire looks great and has a really nice price tag.
That would help with entertaining the kids in the backseat as well

I favorize the iPad. Yes it is a little bit expensive, but the functions are galactic.
At first I used a Sony-Reader, but I send it to the trash.
If you only need it as a ebook-reader...I would favorize a Kindle.

The Kindle system is hard to beat, at least I remember it that way, because somehow the Wife has snagged my Kindle and her Touch and I am reading from a Paperback again I do believe I screwed up by letting her use it while I read the last 3 paperbacks I had purchased...

Honestly, I'd rather have the regular e-ink for ease of reading but even though the cost is 2x+ for color I'm thinking I may pass it by SWMBO a bit easier if it's something more useful to the little people.

E ink is the way to go
