I rarely drink much anymore so when I do I like to really enjoy what I am drinking. Last month on my birthday I finished the last of an old bottle of Bookers I picked up in '02. It was fantastic. I only had about 2 fingers left and poured it over ice. I'm going to miss it. Time to search for a replacement. I still keep Jack on the shelf at all times though for the occasional Jack and coke. Ya I know pollutants!

By the third and subsequent rounds (when I'm fully in the spirit of celebrating life in my own special way) it usually becomes a glass of bourbon and to hell with the spritz

I think Scotch is likely my next big step in the spirits world. I had a very good friend that would drink absolutely nothing except coffee in the morning and Glenfiddich any other time of day. As a younger man, despite near heroic consumption of most any other spirit that was available (ah...Cuervo Gold) I never took to Scotch. I'm not sure why that's so but perhaps its time to re-evaluate that through the filter of much more life experience. If I've learned anything in my near half century of being alive, it's that sometimes you just have to insist on pampering yourself. If you wait for others to pamper you, you are often times disappointed. Sometimes a simple indulgence such as a nice straight razor shave, an antique pipe full of a delicious codger burley, basking in the aroma of a good cigar or enjoying a wonderful adult beverage (in moderation of course) is just what the doctor ordered.
I am a scotch drinker who really never liked bourbons too much. About 2 years ago I went to a place that I could not leave for three days, had no scotch available and all there was to do in the evening was drink something. I tried a few bourbons and found them quite pleasing.
Give a nice scotch a go. I'll bet if you try a nice one, you'll enjoy them like I started enjoying the bourbons.

As I type this I am watching some Johnny Walker Black round off the edges of the chipped ice
I enjoy scotch in the evening also. Try the JW Gold, a fabulous scotch I'll bet you enjoy tremendously.

How was the Yamazaki? I am currently looking at the stuff to try but I've never had a Japanese Scotch. I am very interested in your thoughts.

    Love the Bookers.

The best replacement is of course.. another bottle of Bookers.

I've enjoyed Breckenridge Bourbon, and Eagle Rare.

I try to keep at least one of the three on the shelf. Occasionally they overlap.

Bulleit has become my "go to" everyday bourbon. When I am feeling special a bottle of Blanton does the trick.
I like Bulleit, i have been wanting to sample the green label Rye Bulleit for a while too.

I always mix my Bourbons into an Old Fashioned.
Splash of sugar syrup, splash of bitters, ice and a big ole dose of Bourbon. I also add a small peel of orange rind, squeezed and dropped in.

Currently in rotation are Bulleit, JD Single Barrel, Buffalo Trace

I almost fell off my stool reading the title of this thread! There is a season for Bourbon? I guess I didn't get the memo. And I just forgot the title of this thread.

Bourbon season starts January 1st of every year and traditionally ends on the last day of December.
