Thanked: 983Now I'm not sayin' it wouldm't be fun Griz. I sure as hell would be laughin' and having a great time. I don't think my neighbours or the po-leece would like it if I started knockin' off the toads in my yard though...Well at least not with my trusty .22 anyway...The 30-06...Nah, definately too much gun... . I did quite a few in with an air rifle though. Also used a compound bow and a sling shot...A half a capful of Dettol (a disinfectant) is enough to knock them over in about 30 seconds...Screws up the synapses on them apparently. I intend to get a water pistol to try some longer range application one day. I've also heard that if you're into the game, they make for great golfing practice, BYO safety glasses...and keep your mouth closed too.
Sorry for the thread hijack.

Mick, I think we would get along just famously, and the airgun is a great idea, if you get a chance go to FX.com and check out the airguns from them. I bought one and you charge this thing with a scuba tank to 3000 PSI, and let me tell you it's a little scary. But this thing spits out a 22 caliber pellet at about 1200 ft./s and is deadly accurate. Oh and by the way the barrel is suppressed and legal. That disinfectant sounds like a blast if you can't get super soakers there let me know and I'll send you one this summer they're good for about 30 feet or so, and I'll keep the plans quiet!

Thanked: 983Yeah, I know about them FX airguns, I've been eying them off for some time now. I've got an old airgun from when I was a kid, it's a bit under powered by todays standards, but it is great fun all the same. Super soakers are readily available here and was just what I had in mind to try out. You still have to watch where the buggers hop off to when you hit them with the dettol, because it does sort of piss 'em off a bit, but they never get too far.

Thanked: 983It does amuse me how hunters in many countries, including duck hunters in Australia combine their olive drab/camo clothing with prison orange. Now I know it is a safety thing and that animals (in theory) don't see it the same as humans, but I don't understand why you don't just run around in all prison orange... The sort of hunting I've done in the past was either casual i.e just out to get some dog meat quickly so whatever was being worn at the time was fine, or pre planned where I would choose some muted coloured clothing to take on some wild pigs/'roos/goats etc. I suppose if I was to attend an organised hunt I might have to add some bright colour, but I work on knowing exactly where my hunting partners are at all times (as these, if they're in attendence, are a couple of trusted friends), I don't want to shoot them...I have hunted with two unknowns once. One was a South African ex Rhodesian Scout and the other bloke was just a bloody fool that both the Scout and myself wanted to shoot and be done with it. Would have saved us a lot of trouble as he would run into the line of fire, was crashing through the bush scaring all the game away or creeping silently off on his own, only to re-appear just as silently, hunched over and walking slowly across designated fire zones looking for all the world like a pig. Needless to say we never hunted with him again, but we did go on hunts a few more occassions without the fool after that. The Scout was a nice bloke, but I lost track of him years ago.

Well it`s a law that we wear hunter orange.the guys we were hunting with are deer hunters and just rabbit hunt after deer season. So they have cammo clothing but you still have to have orange on or it`s a 100 dollar fine if you get caught with out it.My hunting clothing is made special for rabbit hunting and the briars that come with it.We had a great and safe time and did not want to shoot anyone.NO fools on this hunt just a bunch of guys wanting to get out and chase some bunny's on a nasty Indiana winter day.We eat all the rabbits we shoot.Again this is not a stealth hunt but you do have to be still and not talk when the hounds turn the bunny and it`s coming back to the gun.So mick you get it yet.just a good day of hound music and shooting guns in a safe and lawful manner.

Thanked: 983Dave, I do understand the use of the orange, and certainly you wear it if it is prescribed by law that you must, what I was saying was more, 'If it were me, I'd just buy a pair of orange overalls and be done with it.' I'm certainly not trying to be argumentative or derogatory. Just amused really, but not unkindly so.
And as you say, and as can be seen to a degree in your video, sturdy clothing would be a must for briar country.

ive hunted rabbit since i was 12 and shot a few before that with bb gun never tried to hit them with my bow i always used a 12 ga adn we were the dogs we chased the edge of fields and shot them when they broke out of the woodline. so a 12 is nice my double 12 is even more forgiving.
