Ive never hunted with dogs and it looks like fun,but I don't know how you go about not hitting the pups. I always used stealth and my marlin .22
    Until I got a Wetherby.....now that's a bunny killer.

I don't know if it is done in the states or not, but (when I was much younger) we hunted pigs with just dogs and knives. The dogs would latch on to the pig and bring it down and we would race up, straddle the pig and drive a knife into it's throat. It's still done this way, but I prefer a rifle myself.

It's definately a young mans game Griz, and an even mix of nads and stupids helps to get the job done. Faith in your dogs not to let go also helps, but sometimes the pig gets the better of dog or man. That's when you get the scars that make for a great story...Or a funeral (dog mostly, more rare but not unheard of, man) that doesn't make for such a great yarn. I was fortunate to have neither scars nor funerals for those few times I ventured into this sort of hunting. If you like that imported German smoked sausage, chances are it was once a pig killed here in Oz in just that way .

Ya know, when I was a kid at camp we had a visitor who told us about something called "Bear Bating". Now get this he said that they put something to bait the bear under a tree, and then climbed up.When the bear came to the bait they jumped on its back and cut its throat, and if done properly, you got the ride of your life for about thirty seconds,....Now we all thought this was bull*hit until he took off his shirt.
This guy's back looked as if he had fallen in a threshing machine. We never knew whether this story was true or not ,but if you guys did what what you did with Boar, then maybe this guy was nuts enough to do what he said he did. Makes you wonder.....Me? I like to have a good revolver on my hip.
