Basically, get as much weight forward of center as possible while still keeping a dynamic spine on the soft side.
If you're having a hard time finding shafts to fit that, the first place I'd deviate is on the length, going for a slightly longer shaft that spines ok.

Of course... that depends on how much weight you're pulling too, I suppose.
I like your way of thinking. I will have related questions in the future but for now i feel I have much more to gain in my form than in the arrow. I have only shot this thing 4 times. My baseline score was 137. My first posted score for leagues was 133. [Don't criticize my math at this time of night!] but it was something like a 35- 36 -62. I changed my bow shoulder. I was trying to lock it but when i relaxed it improved. Immediately after, I scored again and i got a 156. This style is fun, if I pinwheel the X i am elated!

I was talking to a friend that went to state this year and shot barebow. he shot against and beat a guy that shot full length 2712's with 300 grain tips. He was aiming with the point of the arrow. He must have been close to hitting the ceiling of the gym! Not a bad idea but it didn't work.

For you that don't understand the nomenclature Easton sizes their arrows with 4 numbers. the first 2 are the diameter in 64ths of an inch. the second pair is the wall thickness in thousands of an inch. So a 2712 is 27/64ths of an inch in diameter and 12 thousands wall thickness. that makes more sense than a lot of the companys out there.

Try some cedar arrows. If your bow weight is 50, get some 40-45 spine weight arrows, always go 5-10 less than your bow weight for spine weight.

As far as your string goes for your Bear it shouldn't be a big issue. Might cost more than the bow is worth... That is to someone else. If you have a history with it I would certainly get a new string. String makers have charts of what is needed for most anything. PM me if you are interested and I will try to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the info, I should have said it was a lrecurved bow, and yes its old, used to use it for small game when I was a kid in camp. I might just take you up on your offer if I can find anywhere to shoot it here in suburbia, people freak out very easily this day and age....

I see there is a range at Ceder Creek Park. Recurve strings are about $10

Ever since I dropped my CZ into the target stock, I've been wanting something a bit lighter and more agile. Today, it finally came together as the upper and optic arrived.

I don't have a scale, but she should be between 5 and 6 lbs, whereas my CZ is between 9 and 10

I am getting a little better with the long bow. I scored a personal best of 188 last night.

Interesting thread, gents! We've got some shooters on this forum, no doubt. I don't shoot like I used to (sold a lot of my best stuff long ago-other hobbies). Anyway, I'm a lot more low tech. than many of you. I will sometimes take my teenage boys out with my Ruger Single-Six .22LR (with the convertible magnum cylinder), a sack of taters, and a couple boxes of hollow-points. Fun ensues, and the hits are quite explosive-instant mashed potatoes, anyone?

edit: I will add this: Back in the days when my boys were going to Scout summer camp every year, they were expected to (and always did) get the best groups of the week, whether as Cubs with air rifles, or later with .22's. I'd like to think it was because of the fundamentals I taught them; I think target shooting is a great way to teach a young man body discipline and control. Case in point-I had a boy in my troop on the range one year who was a total spaz-extremely ADHD, just all over the place on the bench. In fact, I think myself and the rangemaster were in more danger BEHIND him than anything downrange. 1st day he couldn't even get on the paper! By the end of the week, we had him locked down with an expensive Austrian target rifle brought out especially for him, and he managed to qualify and get his shooting merit badge.

Had me and my son out pinging the 500 yard iron maidon today. I had a muzzle break put on his 270, so we took it out to confirm the zero.. That thing is a great lil weapon! Tikka, great stock rifle.
