Years ago I used to house/dog sit for people and one couple I regularly cared for their animals had a coup with 5 hens. Those eggs were probably the best I have ever eaten. Fresh eggs daily almost makes the hassle seem worth it.

Thanked: 114I've thought about doing this in the past because I think it would be a fun and educational activity with the kids. Unfortunately, zoning ordinances prohibit raising chickens where I live.
Have fun!

I used to spend summers at my Aunt and Uncles place. They had a chicken farm in N.Y. probably had few hundred chickens. They sold eggs mostly.

Raising chickens wouldn't work too well at my house. There is a very large red tailed hawk that nests in the maple tree in my back yard. Certainly keeps down on the small animal population in the neighborhood.
