Years ago I used to house/dog sit for people and one couple I regularly cared for their animals had a coup with 5 hens. Those eggs were probably the best I have ever eaten. Fresh eggs daily almost makes the hassle seem worth it.

I've thought about doing this in the past because I think it would be a fun and educational activity with the kids. Unfortunately, zoning ordinances prohibit raising chickens where I live.

    Have fun!

I used to spend summers at my Aunt and Uncles place. They had a chicken farm in N.Y. probably had few hundred chickens. They sold eggs mostly.

Where do they get the Vegetarians to feed to the chickens?

Raising chickens wouldn't work too well at my house. There is a very large red tailed hawk that nests in the maple tree in my back yard. Certainly keeps down on the small animal population in the neighborhood.
