Thanked: 57What's wrong with the Springfield Armory M-14? ...tried and true and it's a piece of American history that I'd be proud to own!

Thanked: 1936The FN-FAL is a fine rifle indeed, just wanted something that I was familiar with & I've put together over a dozen AR-15's & worked on dozens of M1a's...heck, did some work on one just a week or so ago. The M1a's are built like tanks, but to get into the more accurate rifles you have to spend more dough...something I don't have a large flow of.

Thanked: 1936That 20mm is simply...wow. The part "...the 20mm cartridge produces such excessive recoil that no-one would withstand the force." is quite spooky.

Thanked: 79Congrats! I've been mulling over getting something in .308. Wish I'd bought the SCAR 17 when it was still around two grand, now they're around $2600 or so. FAL was on the list, but good kits are getting hard to come by. I'll also be looking at a PTR91 soon, but I think your AR10 is definitely a choice you'll be happy with, I've heard only good things. Want to share how much you did end up paying?
Any ideas on glass yet?
Best, -o

Thanked: 3227Yea, I understand completely wanting to use something familiar that's why I bought my C1A1 FN. I had the pleasure of shooting an accurized Garand at an informal match with US Navy guys. Not a fair contest against bog standard issue FNs. The guys that built the Garands were the same fellows doing sniper rifles for Nam. Sweet shooters.

According to a buddy of mine, if you want any long gun that even remotely resembles an 'assault rifle' get it while you can. It won't be long before the one you buy now will be known as "pre-ban."

Sweet set up. Devilpup helped me with a bunch of research on a basic 5.56 AR this winter and I love it. I've been thinking of a 6.8 upper to get a little more oomph out of it.
The AR platform is way too much fun and addicting ...
I'm running a 20" Hbar with an A5 buffer and magpul furniture. Just need a cheek riser and a free float tube to get this puppy ready for coyotes ... maybe an ambi safety, too .
Also, if you want an AR before they go away I highly recommend this lower for the lols http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...nge-lower.html

Thanked: 1936The glass is a Burris 6.5-20x50...in the safe. Rings will be Burris. I've got a Colt Delta Elite with newly installed Trijicon's...surely a round to get the job done. I'm good on AR-15's & even have several RRA stripped lowers in the safe from when the Obamanation was elected (bought a dozen) & still have a half a case of Brownell's brand 20 rounders. AR's are like a Barbie for men...we can dress them how we want...aint it cool!
I've been entertaining the gas piston systems, just have zero experience with them. No more than I shoot at any given time, I wonder...is the price worth it? I can see if you were someone with a burst or full set-up...but the old gas system is simply foolproof. Add an adjustable gas-block and you are golden.
My goal is to simplify my toys to the basic "everyday" rounds & get away from the exotics...will I get there? I have no clue...does mean that I need to get another AK rather soon...just in case.

I'm with you on the gas piston. I think Stoner had the right idea with his DI/Piston hybrid. I've only got 800 rounds through mine and today's was the longest session at 220 rounds in about 90 minutes of shooting. Not a single issue that wasn't related to me or my one magazine that I haven't put an anti tilt follower in.
I have one of these as well as the top hat shaped one. Super fun to chase them around the range or start one at the 25yd range and work on pushing it back to 100yds (farthest spot on my local range)
I'd love to be able to do that with a bigger rifle a few hundred yards out. You're going to have way too much fun.
