The 50's were all over the place but on average it was around 2% - I guess it was close to being the same as now.

I have no idea if this is a valid site for calculating inflation rates relative to other eras, but I found this site, in which it seems $100 USD in 1954 is equivalent to $859.91 USD today.

What are you trying to figure out MLA? The calculator will just tell you what a dollar at some point in time would be worth today.

What supermarket are you shopping in ? That's where I wanna go. The 2% , if that is what they say it is, brings to mind Mark Twain, "There are lies, there are damn lies, than there are statistics." (meaning no reflection on you personally BTW)

Inflation calculated via a basket of goods Jimmy - the facts are the facts - what was in the basket then vs. now and interpretation is another thing altogether.

7 years ago we buried a time capsule at our camping place and planned to open it in 5 years. Everyone that came had to bring something to contribute. Included in the stash was a twinkie. When we opened it 2 years ago the twinkie looked good as new and got burried for another 5 years. I wonder what it will be worth in 3 more years?
You can do the same with a Big Mac.

I know about them statistics; we cut our burglary rate in 1/2 one year in the city; we changed them to read thefts.

I brilliantly refuted your contentions but you'll have to take my word for it ..... I hit cancel and here this drivel is instead.
