Thanked: 235Hand written letters
I was talking to some of my students today about methods of communication, these are teenagers who find email to be slow because it is a one person at a time communication. Anyway, I said what about hand written letters. They just looked at me as if I had suggested that people should communicate via smoke signals.
I feel sorry for these students because they may never know the joy of recieving a hand written letter.
The thought that some one has taken the time to pen some thoughts, the physicality of the paper and envelope, and thepersonality that goes into a hand written letter are some of the things that make receiving a letter one of the finer things in life.
I think that many people today would benefit from slowing down and taking the time to pen a letter.

Re: Hand written letters
I think prison correspondence is probably the last vestige of the hand written letter tradition. Sadly.

What have you got against smoke signals?

Thanked: 41Re: Hand written letters
This is another reason I just bought my first manual typewriter. As much as I love my gadgets, I feel that we've lost something tactile in our communication.
And I love when a guy who calls himself "shooter" wants to meet "face to face". Ominous!

heck in today's day and age just a simple phone call is almost out of reach ... im 33 and i have very few friends who will even call , but ill get 100 text from them !! id rather talk in person or over the phone .. i still use letters when i need to really extend a point ad it always means more to me and the person who receives it ...besides that i barely know how to type so my emails wouldn't be in proper English or punctuation do to my chicken pecking at the keys ...lol

It's all part of our disposable world. At one time being a friend or even an acquaintance really meant something because you invested face to face time in it. These days that is absent for many and it makes it very easy to dispose of your friends by just hitting delete.
