The LAST thing I would want is some mega powerful rare earth magnets over riding my light grip on a very sharp blade skimming across my skin! IMHO, A qestionable high tech solution looking for a non existent problem averted by the use of a piece of cloth (towel)!
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Anybody think of a thin, non-slip glove?

I would suggest, not trying to be rude, that this is a solution to a non-existent problem. Many of us switch hands, and have "mastered" the art of drying the hands and the razor, if necessary, on a towel....or our pants leg....or some other convenient dry surface. Lots of barbers draped a folded towel over their shoulder to wipe lots of things on...hands, razors, excess lather, etc.

Idea for a straight razor invention
A 99 cent solution to the exact problem is ALUM , which many many many wet shavers already have in their arsenal. Another solution that already exists is a towel. Dry your hands.
Furthermore a straight razor shouldn't we wet like that, so if your hands are that wet you might not want to be handling your razor in the first place. There's no good that comes of having your hands wet with water while your shaving in the first place.
I have the same throught process as you, being creative... What I have learned is less is more- KISS! :-)
EDIT: wow I'm on point! Everything I just said was already said above! I guess I should read before posting!......... Making Old Razors Shine N' Shave, Once Again.

Thanked: 284Yeah one issue with magnetism is that it's hard to get a good natural sense for the field. I just assume if I had a magnet in hand around my straight, it'd come at my hand edge first.
It's crazy how many magnets we've broken here at work cause you don't realize you're too close to it with a piece of metal until it's too late.
I second the idea to a good way to keep the pivot dry. I'm all for coating just the tang (some are blued, etc). Or, get rid of that area altogether (kamisori)! What an idea! hahaI love living in the past...
