Thanked: 2027Just keep thinking out of the box, thats a good thing. As far as dropping a razor,I never have (yet).
When I had some really big heavy razors,I would go to the dollor store and buy a helium Balloon, attach the string to the razor and just sort of let it float around, worked for meCAUTION

Thanked: 3Hey GREAT IDEA! Helium, man.....never would have thought about it. You could make a special razor with balloons on the blade, custom scales, and a whole novelty package that actually is functional.
Or what about like maybe a very thin strong hanging cord with a swivel. This could be attached to a very miniature pulley and hang system from the ceiling above each chair so that it would be easy to maneuver around the customer. I mean the barber shop clippers are all are attached to cords. Maybe a durable and miniature hanging pulley system would work. Just enough slack to make it workable, and just enough to keep the razor from hitting the ground. A special system for beginners that don't want to ruin expensive equipment until they develop the proper muscle memory.

Why not put matresses all over the floor, and wear armour that is coated in mattresses incase you drop a razor on the floor or yourself.

I'm all for inventions and the state of mind that gets one to the point of actually working on making one. However, a little time and experience solves the problem of dropping a blade. can't say I've dropped or even bumped a razor on anything after the 1st 8 months or so of straight razor shaving. On a whim I even started NOT using water to wipe off my blades while shaving (use a towel or TP). The only time I use water now is prep on my face and to clean up afterward.

I remember in the late eighties/ early nineties I can't remember exactly which there was a.movie called the wizard or.something similar, it starred Fred savage as a red hot Nintendo player, anyway at some point in the movie he went to a tournament where they had a device called a power glove, basically a big chunky glove combined with a games controller. Nintendo released them as an accessory and in real life they were a bit lame compared to the movie one (not that I ever owned one).
Anyway that combined with the glove Freddy Kruger wore in nightmare on elm street led me to think that you could make a glove that has razors attached to small servo motors to allow you to open, close and.change the angle of up to 4 different razors, there could be built in squeegees to de lather the blades, a motorised self lathering brush (think car wash) built into the back of the hand, a wet toweling palm to de soap and clean your face at the end, an air dryer built into the thumb, alum on your pointy finger, witch hazel dispenser on your middle finger, balm dispenser on your ring finger and an aftershave dispenser on the pinky.
The razor scales could have a set of rotary strops built in so that when the limit switch activated telling the PLC that the razor was closed they could activate and strop the blade for you.
What do you guys think, anyone want to design it for me?Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Mach7, here is a suggestion first, change your name...keep your enthusiasm....channel it into some serious learning about this worthy skill and set of skills. If you have another idea you are trying to jack someone around with, make it more fun, start the post with, 'I want to shave (no lie).....

I've read this full thread.
The ring idea is bad. You SRS with both hands. You swap hands constantly, And your grip changes according to your face.
The idea of having a blade protector however might have some merit in the correct application.
Think of a double mousetrap that clips over the spine, And attaches to a lightweight lanyard.
You put the lanyard round your neck when your using the razor and your blade is now protected from damage from been dropped. In the event of been dropped the lanyard pulls a small pin that activates the trap. The trap is 2 lightweight flaps of plastic that snap shut over the edge. By the time the razor hits the floor it's going to hit the spine or the plastic.
Simple and might save an expensive razor in the hands of a beginner. And when you hone the device just unclips.
It's no replacement for dry steady hands and a sure grip however.
If you make it I've already named it the "Anti-Circumciser". If you make it I expect you to use that name as it's trademark
