I'd like to use just straights but when you have skin situations DE's and SE's sure come in handy. At least once a week a use a DE or SE just to give my face a 48 hour rest. The last few days though, skin flair ups have me using first my Schick injector and this morning my Gem SE. If needed, tomorrow will be my 3 piece Gillette DE. But I want my straights back in rotation soon, please!

Rosacea. Some call it old age acne, but it's not. And not all people are even prone to it. I have a mild case of it, but still bothersome when my face breaks out and makes straight razor shaving uncomfortable. I don't stretch skin wen I shave with a DE or SE so I'm left with a very fine stubble without really scraping skin. A day or two and I'm back to straights. No known cure for Rosacea and a lot of meds, creams, gels and folk remedies abound to treat it.

Though I have all kinds of razors I mainly use the 6/8s and 5/8s hollows and halves. Actually I have too many razors to rotate so I just have a group and from that group of around 30 I do a rotation of sorts and the others are more relegated to the rarely used status. My DE's I reserve for days I'm in a hurry and I rotate from around 5 of them but mainly use my feather DS-2.

Thanked: 60Wow thanks for sharing. It must be tough dealing with difficult skin. I was horrified when I got a few zits on my chin following my shaving with oil experiment. I get down when I get bumps on my neck. I have several after having a beautiful shave with my DE yesterday. First time I used the DE in an age, no irritation during or after but 8 hours later red bumps on the neck. I'm wondering if they are ingrowing hairs or something else….no idea what ingrowing hairs were until I came here. (still not sure now if I'm honest).
Its a bit of a mystery this shaving / skin relationship stuff. It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

I alternate 4 shavettes, 3 DE, 2 multi blade cartridge shavers & a headblade. Also alternate 4 brushes & 3 soaps. Wish I had many many more options to rotate.
