Thanked: 3228For a release agent I have used floor paste wax with Devcon 2 part metal epoxy bedding rifles years ago. I would think wax paper should also work as well.

Ok I'm going to post pictures of the bottoms when I get home so that you can see what I am talking about.
BobH, I want the bedding to be permanently stuck in the box but the stone to be removable from it.

Thanked: 3228OK, just make sure that you use plenty of release agent on the bottom, sides and the top of the hone in quite a bit from the edges. Also on the top exposed edge of the box and a bit down the sides. That makes any overflow of the bedding material that will ooze up between the hone and box easy to clean up. It can get a bit messy.

I just make a mask with tape all around the hone, put it on a flat leveled surface bottoms up and and drop molten beeswax on its underside just to fill all the lower surface of the stone. Gravity does the trick and the wax became a flat surface when solid.
Better than this... wax makes a nice sticky bedding that avoids hone walking when in use, it is pretty hydrophobic and can be easily removed by heating or by organic solvents to be replaced. Oh, it is cheap and I use beeswax just because I have tons of it. Hard paraffin would be nice too.

This is why I want some kind of bedding. The stones wobble if I just have them on a flat surface. I hope the vast differences show. I mean the translucent literally goes from a little less than a half inch to two inches thick. I was thinking about using stone resin or something like that too keep it from flaking and also take care of the porous issue. Don't know why the pictures uploaded upside down but oh well, you get the picture, literally.

Thanked: 3After seeing the pictures, I'd give the wax a try first. It could be pretty hard to not lock one in with the devcon.
If you can do the wax and still get them out easily, then you could try the devcon or similar. With that many irregularities, it could be tricky.

Yeah I think I am just going to skip any glass bedding options as they are too unforgiving. I think i will go with RTV silicone that way if it gets stuck I can either peel it off or melt it off. Worst case scenario it gets stuck and I just have to leave it in the box
