Morning or Evening Shaves, Preference?
Last evening, whilst in the midst of shaving, it occurred to me that I enjoy shaving more at night (8ish) on the work days. I rise around 4:30 am and shave before heading in to work and it never seems to be as satisfying. It seems rushed and utilitarian during the mornings, even though I allot enough time for a proper two pass shave.
Where as in the evening, there is something about setting out the straight, filling the scuttle with hot water, prepping the brush for lather, getting that lather just right, etc. Even the lather seems to smell more fragrant. My technique seems to be better also. Nothing beats getting a three pass shave, a few swipes of the alum block, applying a soothing aftershave lotion/balm/liquid and then catching a quiet sit, relishing a spot of bourbon (Elmer T. Lee).
While sitting with a drink in hand, I like to reflect a little on how shaving with a straight razor, and everything that goes with it, has brought a tad bit more enjoyment to life and how I wish more people could experience it. It's a time I look forward to every evening, a bit of therapy if ya will.
Just wondering if anyone one else out there has a preference? Till next time then, taker easy Y'all."I can resist everything but temptation."

I also rise early, usually 4 am. I take my time and start my day with a hot towel. Then lather and another hot towel. I usually pre-select my razor and brush the night before and have them ready. The soap or cream I will change depending on how I feel unless it's Martin de Candre Then I usually stick with my evening selection. I enjoy the morning shave as the house is quiet and I get to enjoy my shave all day.

I'm in that retired boat too, so it is when I feel like it. Sometimes mid morning, other times mid day. Nice not to have to be rushed through it. The exception for me is Sunday morning before church. In that case it is usually DE. All the rest are straight razor shaves 99% of the time.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Me, whenever I like but my favorite time is still after a long days work after closing down, feeding the dog, responding to my last emails and looking forward to wind down by taking a shower, shave, bourbon, cook, watch netflix or a game and just chill. Priceless.

Thanked: 4829I do occasionally enjoy a morning shave, however I go like to go to bed freshly shaved and showered. I am sure my lovely wife also appreciates it more at this time of day. My beard growth is slow enough that I still get to be clean shaven all the next day fr work as well. I really enjoy lounging in the morning too and that is always easier if I don't have anything else to do before work.

Thanked: 49Evening. I could probably do a one or two pass shave in the morning if i got up earlier. Much more time to relax and enjoy my standard four pass shave after a shower and before bed. Occasionally I enjoy a morning shave on a non-work day when i have the time.

I'm retired too, so I usually do mine at 1:30 or 2:00 while my wife naps...that way, I can take my time and will be assured of no interruptions. Life is tough.
When I have to get up on Sunday's for church, I use a DE.Just call me Harold

Gentlemen,
Much of my 30-year radio career I was up at 4:00 a.m. to do morning drive. If I had to make a personal appearance after the show, I shaved and wore handsome duds. If not, I went to work unshaven looking like a Corsican assassin.
Although no long in radio and spending much of my time writing, I am usually up between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. I love the early morning hours. I love the peace that comes with the sunrise. That's when I prepare my shaving paraphernalia, starting with stropping the razor, selecting the brush, soap or cream — and anxiously await for 7:00 a.m. and shower and shave. That is seven days a week.
So for me, make it an early morning shave.
