Men's Journal "article" on straight razor shaving
This is precisely why I despise men's magazines with their recycled camouflaged paid advertising…

Ya, that's a pretty blatant advertisement.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

"A beginner's kit will only cost you $29 for a blade, strop, soap, and full-color eight-page manual on how to shave properly and safely."
That has to be a typo for the kit to be $29. They must have meant $299.A fool flaunts what wisdom he thinks he has, while a wise man will show that he is wise silently.

you'd be surprised how many suckers there are out there.
This set cracks me up!
Nothing better than a blunt gold dollar for a beginner to learn the art of straight razor shaving with. Talk about a throw in the deep end.

At least they tell you that its blunt. But I don't think people really realize what they are getting themselves into. That looks like it is only good enough to leave blunt and practice handling the razor. But if it was me I would go get a $10 blunt the edge myself and then practice. If you want a quality end result you need quality products and spend quality time with them. Oh, I better go spend some quality time with my setup.

I think you have not checked the rest of their website. Very cleverly done. Well designed site with very good SEO. A good mix of overpriced Chinese and Pakistani scrap metal, eBay junk with recycled bowling balls for scales, strangely enough a number of well known custom makers, and some utterly ridiculously priced "big names" such as Dubl Duck and Wade & Butcher. Trust them to appear high in many searches.
If I had to wager a guess, the "sold" razors are there for search engine poisoning purposes only. I have seen this on a number of sites where a single, allegedly sold but also highly sought after razor was kept in a gallery full of junk.
Oh, and that is not even mentioning their "sister sites" with a lot of tearful USA! USA! stuff. And, of course, an extremely tastefully done "Dovo".
One born every minute.

One of my first razors was a blunt gold dollar, it definitely want a nice way to learn, and actually hindered my technique add I struggled to work out why it wouldn't shave.
Now I actually quite like gold dollars, and have several that I shave with comfortably (as well as a few other ebay specials that I ready shouldn't buy but can't help myself) the advice offered in this article is terrible though, a "blunt" gold dollar is a really good way to do some real damage in my experience.
