    Default Razor Cabinet

Getting ready to take the razors off the wall and put them in a cabinet of some kind. I've ran out of room on my display boards and they are starting to pile up in boxes. I just cant live that way! Been looking at jewelry boxes and the kind that stand up as I don't have any table space for a box in my room. Tomorrow is my Saturday and I've talked the wife into doing the rounds at used furniture/antique stores tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers I will find the perfect chest of thin drawers somewhere along the day. Of course I know the wife will come home with a car load of junk but its more fun with her along. Wish me luck!

If you have the room,Look for old blue print files. Or at a higher price, type print cases. Check College surplus sales, also.

I looked at a few of those on-line. They are pretty damn big Richard. Wish I had that much room. Love those old warn cabinets. I'm hoping for something with 24 inch wide drawers, 8 to 12 inches deep and about 4 foot tall. That would be perfect. Or something on legs as I don't want to have to get on my knees to look in the bottom drawers. It a PITA getting old and getting off the floor. Ha.

I was going to build what I wanted but by the time I buy the material and make one I might fond one for cheaper when you count how much time it would take. It's still an option but its cold outside where I'd have to work.

I thought I had posted this already but don't know what happened...

Spent some time with the wife going all over the place looking for the cabinet I wanted and finally found something very close. I spent more than I wanted too but I think it will be worth it in the end.

The tag said it was from the 1800's. I'm not too sure about that. Tag also called it an Apothecary from Japan. Well that got me interested!

When I got it home and took all the drawers out to wipe it down I found a bag that is from Japan and it has some drugs in it. Most likely so kind of natural stuff would be my guess. I also found one of the guides for the drawers was just sitting inside so I took it out to check on the nails used to attach it and found there was no nails. This thing has been put together originally with wood pins and glue! Now there are a few nails on the sides of the drawers to hold the drawer fronts on so its been fixed up before. Plus I don't think the pulls are original but it still looks old, warn and shows its age. So it might really be from Japan and was used in an apothecary.

Here's a few pics. I need to get some short legs on it so its easier to use but I think I did good!
    Hope you like it.

Got some legs on it now. I'll take them off and stain them a dark color to match but now its not sitting on the floor.

    Very cool cabinet Jerry.

It will be interesting to see how you set up the drawers for razors.
Looks like it could serve as a multi-purpose cabinet and hold some soaps and other shave stuff.

The history behind it is a huge bonus.

    Congratulations and enjoy!

I recognize that. It was used at Fukashima to store homeopathic meds until the reactor went.
