    Default Top 5 Confessions

This is a thread inspired by one over at B&B

What are your top 5 shaving related confessions? Things that you do (or don't do) that you are a little sheepish about. Come on guys, let it all out! You'll feel better about it in the end!

    Here are some of mine:

    1. I've invested well into the 4-digit territory, not including any razors...

    2. I think witch hazel, alum, pre-shave treatments and to a lesser extent AS and balms are a waste of time and money.

    3. I only do 1 pass...WTG. XTG makes no discernable difference and ATG makes me want to cry. I've only experienced BBS once and the after-effect was nowhere near being worth it.

    4. Quality brush or not, I think Simpson brushes are the ugliest things money can buy.

    5. I dislike - with a passion - all floral scents. Lavender, rose, jasmine...gag me with a wooden spoon.

Now is the time to get it all off your chest

Heh heh. Good one! I'll throw in my lot...

[1] I blow up my cheeks like Louis Armstrong whilst stretching the skin to shave upper lip. Not even my wife knows this. It make me look moronic.

[2] I love floral scents, especially Rose and Lavendar. Makes me feel like an English dandy.

[3] I never do WTG. Only ATG for upper lip (see 1) and ATG for neck and chin.

[4] Although almost always disappointed with results from my coticule, I refuse to give up and can never finish honing without one.

[5] No matter how often I tell myself "This time do not obsess with BBS, just stop short and you won't get weepers" I can't help it. I always go one pass too far and end up with a nick or a little burn somewhere. It's like Pavlov never existed -- I never learn.

    Gawd, what a schmuck!

ok ok! I accuse myself of being too afraid of going ATG. I've always shaved WTG and XTG. I habitually neglect my more expensive badger hairs and reach for my trusty boar hair brush every chance I get!
    Whew! I feel better already.

    1. I reach for my M3 if I need a quick trim around the burns or the back of my neck.

    2. I used the brush that came with my terrible Zeepk kit up until about a month ago.

    3. My left wrist is usually bald after a stropping test.

    4. Bay rum smells horrible in my opinion.

    5. I strop with two hands to keep it steady.

    Last 3 confessions:
My favorite coffee cup is also my favorite shaving mug. I use the coffee brewer to heat shaving water in 'cause it gets the water temp just right. I use an old foam cup cooler/holder to wipe the lather off my razor with.

    1. I dislike badger brushes! I bring out my silvertip once a month (maybe) just because is cost me $118.00. - and I still like my German boar better!

    2. I have over 36 brands of soaps and creams in my rotation.

    3. I oil every razor in my rotation with Camelia Oil before I put them away. Hey, that's not bad. Is it?

    4. I quit going ATG with my str8! If I really want BBS, I finish with the DE w/Derby blade. And, that's okey, too.

    5. If I can't quite get the edge I want while honing, I will do pyramids between my DMT 1200 and my Coticule (last resort). Guess what? It works!

    1. I have way more of razors, brushes, strops, and what not than I need - and am not proud of it (even though the brushes and strops are very limited: 3-4, and even for razors I have nothing comparfed to some )
    2. I will shave after a drink - not encouraging it for others, and may regret it for myself - but so far I have always enjoyed it
    3. It is so nice to smoke a cigar on the porch after a late night shave (almost all of mine) when everyone else in the house is sleeping
    4. If you add a nice glass of scotch or something to the cigar it's approaching bliss, especially if the shave was a good one
    5. I prefer to get a nick or two than a red spot

    1) I still use the DE to get a couple spots on the neck BBS.

    2) I hated floral scents until I tried Colleen's Lavender. Now I'm completely addicted to (good) lavender.

    3) I prefer the inexpensive Vuflix pure badger my wife stole from me to the Merkur Silvertip she left in its place.

    4) Almost every time I'm in the bathroom I stop to smell the soaps

    5) Despite actually enjoying shaving with a straight (something I could never say with electric/multi-blade and was borderline with DE) I still only do it about 1-2 times per week. Generally look scruffy all the time except those days.

Oh, I usually shave very rarely and also look scruffy most of the time - but I am not sheepish about this one bit

What do you hold the strop with?
