Am I thanking Folks too much?
I tend to thank everyone who answers any thread that I post in which I am asking for feedback. I also thank people who post positive comments or give me guidance when I breach etiquette. How and When do you use Thanks?

Thanked: 1212I must admit that I am not very fond (an understatement) of the Thanks counter addition to SRP.
For me it all leads a bit too much to -how to put this?- a certain kind of "jerking each other off" atmosphere. Excuse me for putting this rather bluntly.
In everyday life, when people thank me for something, I don't need that written on my forehead, or put as some kind of price tag on my vest.
I feel it's a bit childish and I think it will soon lead to a "Thanks"-inflation on these boards. If I really want to thank someone, I will PM that person with my gratitude.
Nice thread. Glad I could get that from my chest.

If I thank someone in my post I go back and thank them using
the thanks feature, that way I'm not thanking the whole
world for basic things.

If someone responds to one of my questions specifically and helpfully I'll thank them. If someone give a particularly thoughtfull or clever answer to anothers question, I'll thank them and if someone cracks a joke that make my spirits rise I'll thank them, and its that last guy that keeps me comming back day day after day to this place.

I just really love the term "Thanks-inflation." I hope you don't mind if I use it around the house. For example when my wife says that I don't appreciate the many things she does for me I can say something along the lines of: "With the economy what it is today and with society and morals deteriorating an an exponential rate all while "global warming" does whatever they're saying it's doing now I refuse to become a cause for the impending scourge of thanks inflation."
Oh, and I only thank people when they say: a) something helpful, b) something nice, or c) something really funny.

How much would that be in '2007 thanks'
I only use it rarely.
And as a mod, I don't use it in the conversation forum, because I have to maintain neutrality. I cannot thank person A for saying something, and then start moderating when B says something else and takes the thread downhill because that would be asking for problems.
EDIT: I drink old malt more frequently than using the thanks function.
EDIT2: this poll is missing the cowboyneal option.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
