No worries on the quotation thing... I'm still learning my way around too!

You should definitely check out Colleens soaps as well. I plan to have an assortment from all the fine soapmistresses and soapmasters, so check them all out when you can.

As for the combo paddle strop: I like the idea of the leather always being straight and tight, but I also like the idea of having the various sides for pasting. I don't yet have a honing stone, and really can't afford the Norton 4K/8K right now, but I'm hoping I can gain some longevity out of my blades with pasting before I have to send them off to be honed again. I had come to all these conclusions before ever having used a hanging strop though. Now that I have a hanging strop, I don't find it to be difficult at all, but I'm still curious about the paddle strop.

    Hope that helped a little.

    Hi Pearl Razor,
i am an Aussie straight shaver too {definitely a guy } and knifemaker, soon to start on razor making.
    Anyhoo, in Australia, you can't go past the Australasian Knifemaking Supplies. Keith and Joan Spencer run it and Joan has a special interest in straight razors. They have the best pricing on brand new straights in Australia - far better than you will see in retail shops.{i'm in Brisbane now and yet to check out the shops here, but Joan has new razors at less than HALF the price the Shaver Shop outlets in Sydney want- just to give you an idea}
Just google, or yahoo, their website and give them a call. Have a chat to Joan. They'll really look after you.
    Best Regards,
    Adam
    Respectfully,
    Adam.

Stick with the scents listed as having essential oils if you are sensitive, or just ask them to recommend something, they won't steer you wrong.
My advice would be to try a little of everything you can get your hands on.

Also, I'll make an offer to the ladies, (Ladies only guys, I don't care what color your dress is ) if you want to try my soap, PM me with your mailing info and I'll send out a free sample puck. (yes international too)
I currently only have one type of soap, and it was formulated for my own use... I use it probably twice a week, along with my favorites from Mama Bear and Colleen.
(this is a very limited time offer, I have to make it so, or risk giving away too much soap. So if you want a free sample, please PM me before the end of the day on 06/21/08, and I'll send out free samples. That includes you Colleen, and Mama Bear, if you want to try mine out and tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'm always open to suggestions )
yey I got my soap today!!
Thanks heaps fo that Mike!! Much appreciated! especially since I'm on the other side of the world!
Just sad coz I'm so excited to SR shave my legs yet I only have soap!!

The badger brush my hubby ordered had gone missing in the post and I still have not recieved anything else I have ordered!!

    I"M DYING TO START!!

    G'day Pearl
Lottsa help & info available here on SRP. Don't trust some shop assistant whose never used a straight.
If by NC you mean as far up as Byron Bay then Jimbo might be your closest ally in your quest.
If you're closer to Sydney give me a holla.
    In any case, WELCOME !
