Are you the only one?
Got to thinking about this this afternoon. It seems I'm the only one in my family who is a shaving addict. I tend to get strange looks when I get another razor or soap, and when I get ready to shave they don't say much, but I can tell by the looks that they are mentally shaking their heads wondering where they went wrong.
Do you get the same reactions? Are you the only one in your family with this addiction?

I'm definitely the only one. I've never met another straight razor shaver except for SRP members.
Some have said that they've been surprised to find the people they've been acquainted with were straight razor shavers and never knew it. I think that's something that at some point would simply come up "around the water cooler" and certainly hasn't for me.

My wife enjoys seeing me create things. She has dealt with my antique bicycle restoration, knife restoration, now razor restoration. Otherwise, I really don't talk about it or make a big deal out of it.

I am the only one in my extended family who uses a straight, I do have a mate, who used a straight for years until his daughter shaved her legs with it and he was unable to get it honed back up. I suspect he may have had other reasons for quitting.
My late father may have used them in his younger days ( born in 1910) and he did say that for your 21st it was traditional to be given a pair of straights, interestingly my mother was keen to get me a cased set of duelling pistols for mine!
My current partner is amused by my use of the straight, but curses me for taking time in the bathroom, as I live in a house full of women, use of the single bathroom is a nightmare.
Cheers

Solitary bunch aren't we ? I think the family thought me odd even before my straight shaving.
I have only one close friend who uses a straight. He learnt from his Dad, a blacksmith.
Don't you love the " my skin's too sensitive to shave with one of those things" reaction ?The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

As far as straights go I am the only one in my family so far. I gave my son a Genco when he came back from Army Basic but he is iffy on using it. I think he has a case of nerves about that piece of the Worlds Sharpest Steel next to his throat
For wet shaving my wife and daughter both use DE's so things like soap and cream are no issue. My poor Badger tho is getting a work out
I have to go find him a couple friends

Thanked: 31Aside from this forum, I don't know a single straight-razor shaver. I'm glad the forum is here, though. I don't feel so alone and lost! Oh, and my wife thinks I'm ridiculous for doing it, but she was OK with me buying the kit from kenrup, so aside from the eye roll I got when I told her I was able to finish all the passes in 40 minutes on Monday, there hasn't been any grief...
