Thread: What do you do with your shave soap after each use?

Just wondering which way is most popular....

I reuse it .... I just strop the edge loaded with lather and whiskers on the rim of the shave mug and re-collect it. The stropping on the ceramic mug helps keep my edge keen during shaving, too. The lather will lose it's bubbles and moisture and be practically like new by the next shave, save for the little hairs.

I rinse my brush thoroughly. Then I rinse out the old lather and clean off the mug, leaving the cake for the next soaping. Lynn

Very occasionally, before rinsing the soap out my brush, I will pass it over my strop a couple times in a few different directions.

I use a scuttle so I just pour out the water from below and thats that. Easy as pie. 8)

Neatness counts. Rinse out that mug... and maybe do a little spit polishin', too.

Rich, I bought a scuttle and I'm having trouble with it. I love the way it looks, but the soap part is so shallow! When I work up a lather it flows over the top and it's all over the place. How do you handle that?

Because ot the mess it's mostly for display now.

I'm bumping this thread because I'm thinking about putting a soap or two into my all-cream rotation and I thought a scuttle would be a neat way of doing so. Like Joe, I've also wondered whether that shallow upper bowl might result in a mess. It'd be great if Rich or other scuttle users could share his (their) technique(s) and perhaps let us know where they obtained theirs. Thanks.

Mine is a beautiful British antique that I got on Ebay. So far, I haven't used it much because of the mess.

Sorry just saw your post. Actually when it does flow over I just let it. The water I use is almost boiling when I put it in, so the brush gets good and hot as well as the later. I have yet to have to go back and get more lather from the scuttle. The amount on the brush is enough for two latherings and that does it for me.
