Thanked: 20It's kind of interesting to me as some of you guys have mentioned cutting out the religious aspects of marrage. I have nothing wrong with that at all, I don't think that you should pander to someone else's ideals. But all that said, my girlfirend and I have seriously considered getting married by our church and not worrying about the country. None of the legal stuff will matter untill we've lived together for a while and count as common-law, so why bother? Kind of the polar opposite, but I fuly respect your desisions. Living together, getting married, none of it matters if there is no commitment, so do what you want, and be happy, hopefully you find the right one!

Well I guess I'll weigh in on this one. My "wife" and I are not legally married even though we wear rings. We've been together for almost thirteen years now. I look at it this way. Gettin' up in front of a Justice of the Peace and sayin' "I promise to be a good spouse" is fine for those in attendance, but I show my love to her every day in active and practical ways. I called her my girlfriend for years, but after a while it just became easier for other people to refer to each other as spouses. We avoid all the uncomprehending, "You've been together how long"? "How come you're not married"? "What do you mean you have a kid together"? kinds of questions. When asked if we're married I often say something like, "We're as married as we need to be", or, "After more than a decade together with a kid in tow, we're as married as anybody ever gets".

Thanked: 44I'm a youngin(19) and not married. As much as I would like to be one day, jumping into it is the way to end up divorced. I'd like to avoid that.
