Unmarried and really dont believe in the whole marriage thing so to speak. I believe in staying with one person in a committed relationship, but it seems that when the paper is signed....relationships usually break up..

I called her my girlfriend for years, but after a while it just became easier for other people to refer to each other as spouses. We avoid all the uncomprehending, "You've been together how long"? "How come you're not married"? "What do you mean you have a kid together"? kinds of questions. When asked if we're married I often say something like, "We're as married as we need to be", or, "After more than a decade together with a kid in tow, we're as married as anybody ever gets".

Being married has legal implication too in relation to taxes, estate, power of attorney, etc...

Part of the reason Gay Marriage advocates are pushing it so hard

Here in Canada, Common Law status pretty much is marriage for law, taxes etc.

marrige is what you make of it. sometimes its not the easiest thing in the world to do and it takes a lot of work from both sidesbut in the end the good outweighs the bad there are times when having that someone special in your life just makes it that much better. i always said i would never get married but i said my vows 2 years ago and never looked back my wife is the most important person in my life and i thank god every day for bringing her into my like. if you are married i highly recommend watching the movie fireproof you can get it at wal-mart for $20

Unfortunately, Uncle Sam's immigration officers have strict rules, too. You want her to get US visa? Marry her first!

I assume if the favorable tax status changes you'll be serving your wife divorce papers?
