Default Samples of creams, aftershaves, etc...

I keep seeing people talk about getting free samples of creams, aftershaves and such, but I'm unable to find this kind of thing on any manufacturer's website.

As a new straight razor/DE shaver, I'd like to get to test a few different products without putting a lot of money down for something I may not like.

Am I reading wrong, or am I simply missing how to request samples?

OK ... ya' gotta' lie a little ..... next trip to the mall, hit up the big department stores' mens' cosmetics counters. Tell them you need as many samples as you can get to take them home for your wife/girlfriend/mistress/other to sniff and choose from. They'll fill your shopping bag with stuff!

E-mail Truefitt & Hill, Geo F Trumper, Taylor of Old Bond St, DR Harris, and any others you can think of. Most of them sent samples to me when I just asked for it.

Trumper's email works fine -- over the years I've gotten answers to questions, ordered their products and asked for samples -- very pleasant group to deal with -- but don't expect an answer 10 minutes after you post.

No, I mean literally the e-mail doesn't work.

    Returned mail: delivery problems encountered

The following addresses had delivery problems:

    <enquiries@trumpers.com>
    Permanent Failure:

Am I not using the correct address? I got it off of their website.

I got sample from e-shave with a purchase of their gift selections, and it is where i found my single favorite of favorites scent "White Tea" in their shave cream it's awsome! I have gotten free samples at the shops of L'Occitane, Crabtree & Evelynn and Macy's. Some of the hoy paloy dept stores have some shave cream samples, at Macy's I got the Anthony Sport shave cream which is just superb.

Some of the suppliers have "Gift Box Sets" which will get you several items such a cream, balm, and preshave oils. It will allow you to try it out relatively inexpensively.

I think 99% of the inflated price of a cosmetic is packaging, advertising, and wholesale store discounts .... so you're saying an iddy-bitty sample isn't FREE?

I emailed Taylors and told them that I am interested in thier sandalwood line. I said that I have spent a lot of money on other brands and havent been satisfied. I asked if they could send a small sample. Here is the email I got today.

    Dear Sir,

    Thank you for your e-mail.

We do not normally provide samples, but as a gesture of goodwill we have made up a couple of samples of our Shaving Creams for you to try.

We will post these out to you today.

    Kindest Regards,

    Taylor of Old Bond Street

I cant wait to try them.
