I have 'Le Petite' which is a small razor. I think the cutting edge is about 2". Use it all the time.

Have you ladies ever tried a kamisori, a Japanese straight razor. In Japan they use them to shave ladies' faces as well, there is some footage of that on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCZLj...eature=related

Most kamisoris are a lot shorter, about 2 inches.

There were several makers who manufactured very small blades.
    "Wiener Schaber" for example.
"Weltmeister" 7/16" with 5.3 cm blade length, 11.3 cm scales.
"ERN Kid" with 5.5 cm blade length
"The Mab" with 5.5 cm blade length
"The Pew's Patent" (Monkey's Tale) with 5.6 cm blade length
    and probably a lot more.
I got a torrey that is ~5cm and 1/2" blade width, with barber's notch.
I was surprised at the size really.

I have a vintage H.M. Christensen that is 4/8 and shaves great on my whole face. The fact that it is user-friendly around my goatee is a definite plus.

This what I found but doesn't correspond with the vintage you suggest
PM Alex (Manah). He's pretty good with makers history.

Please don't forget that narrower razors, especially in the 3/8 and 4/8 sizes were used by barbers for the finishing work following a haircut for trimming the sideburns.

Most kamisoris are a lot shorter, about 2 inches.

the barber made more than a few passes at 75 to 90 degrees.

    Blade must be very sharp.
