I didn't see anyone else mention this yet, but, in my experience, Reynolds razors tend to be bears to hone. I don't know what it is about them, but they've given me (and maybe it's just me) more of a hard time than any other Sheffield blades I've ever honed.

I have only dealt with honing a few Reynolds, but I was thinking to myself the other day... Man, this one isn't going as easy as my butchers.. Interesting

If I decide not to buy it would they just put it back up for bidding?

It's up to them, i suppose, but i guess they'll give you negative feedback. If you bid on it & win it's only decent to pay for it & chalk up the mistake as a lesson leaned.

+1 A project well worth it in the end though.

My Reynolds was in far worse condition and has turned into a smooth shaver that gets it done. My first straight razor and will always remain among my favored razors. Yes, they don't seem to hone up too easy, but when you get it there, the edge lasts.

Yeah but I don't have the equipment or experience to restore a blade, and don't feel its worth 20 dollars.

The good news, for buyers on eBay that is, is that sellers can no longer give negative or neutral feedback to a buyer, for any reason. What they can do, if a buyer does not pay, is file a non-paying bidder strike against the buyer, which is public. A few of those and your account could be suspended. Here is what to do , per the eBay help center:

I won an item but no longer want to buy it. What should I do?
A bid or purchase on eBay is considered a contract and you’re obligated to purchase the item. However, if you feel that you have a legitimate reason for not buying the item, you can contact the seller and explain your situation. Many sellers are willing to work with you if you communicate with them openly and honestly. If you haven’t done so already, request the seller’s contact information and call him or her. Possibly, things can be worked out to everyone’s satisfaction.
If the seller doesn’t respond in the way you hope, keep in mind that failing to purchase an item you have won can result in an unpaid item strike being filed against you by the seller. If you get too many strikes in too short a time period, your account may be restricted or suspended.

Croaker got to it before I did. If nothing else, you can post it on the forums and someone might buy it from you, or sell it on Evilbay yourself. I didn't have the tools or knowledge to fix up my razor either. I found the info I needed in forums like this one, borrowed a tool or 2 from friends and relatives, and put in some time on it.

I completely agree. I can say thing though, I have yet to find a good Sheffield blade that has not been damaged by heat, that does not hold an edge well. The last few I have had actually shaved great. I just had a hard time getting the bevel right.

Well I did end up buying it but am not sure what to do with it. What I really want to do is get my hands on a couple Wade and Butcher wedges.
