Thread: SRP Club Razors Update

I finally got mine yesterday and I couldn't wait to get home to use it. All I had to do was strop it and the shave was great.
One question. I didn't do anything unusual with it, just removed the oil with alcohol and sterilized it before shaving.
When I was done, I had water stains on it like you find on some of the old razors. They cam off OK with MAAZ, but I never had this happen after a shave. Ha anyone had a similar experience?

Thanked: 0Nr 21 and 22 arrived safe and sound across the pond! 10 days from CA to England, and Her Majesty's Custom didn't bleed me to death. Many thanks To Ray and his team for the hard work and excellent International service as usual, and Lynn of course for making this possible.
I'd heard things about TI's quality control in the past and don't know how true that all is, but these ones are perfect, beautifully crafted and finished. I might sell of all my ebay specials now, I only need one razor after all!

It's the first time I shave with a razor nobody else's used before!! I'm off to a 1 to 1 quality time shaving session right now! ink:

Thanked: 0Hey Joe, I've had those waterspots too. Similarly, I used MAAZ to take them out,... and then they never came back! Weird, huh? It was only on brand new shavers that I received before I had Ray send me some of that Tuf-Glide. After honing, I wipe that stuff on and let them set -- before shaving I rinse it off, barbacide dip, and rinse and go. I don't re-apply until it's hone time -- but that keeps those pesky spots away.
They aren't just water spots either, are they? It is literally like a chemical reaction has occurred which causes the metal to turn black where the water sets. I don't know if it's the residual from MAAZ and Tuf-Glide that keeps it away, but it was annoying. I had one that was real close to the edge and I just left it. I don't want to use MAAZ that close to a keen edge -- it happens to be one of three Revisors I have, I now use that marking to distinguish it from my others,... but I digress.

You're right. I wonder if anyone knows what causes that. I haven't seen it ony other razors.
After I shave, I spray my razors with Clippercide. It's a barbicide product in a spray can. It also is a lubricant. It's got to be good that way because clippers really need to be lubricated. That's what I did after I removed the spots and put it away. The spots haven't come back.

Gentlemen,
After reading all the great news on these razors, I decided to pick one up. This makes #5 for me, but 3 are e-bay specials I got to work up my honing skills, so until I shave with them, they don't count. Still going to town with the nicely honed Dovo I got from David, and while I won't clain to have a perfect shave yet, I'm keeping my sking and removing most of the hair, so it's all just practice on my skills, near as I can tell.
Anyway, looking forward to getting my SRP razor! Oh, and can someone explain MAAZ to me?

Thanked: 0id be careful when you use the green paste. i hit it last night on the green pasted strop and a little of the paste dust found its way onto the scales and slightly disclored the side where the etching is done, kinda near the tang. however, it is the usual TI i have come to expect

Thanked: 0Stephen,
MAAZ is a polishing paste -- similar to a "jeweler's rouge." If you pick up eBay ugly razors for practice, you can use MAAZ to polish them back to a mirror finish. eBay razors are great for honing practice. There's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when you create your own bevel and hone your first razor to keeness!
MAAZ is available at Ace hardware, comes in a tube / silver box.

Thanks, Chris. Is that the same as MAAS? I'll have to hit the ace, I have a few of those eBay specials that could certainly use it!
Got my SRP razor yesterday, first shave this morning. Wow! It's heavier than my usual and that really makes a difference, almost didn't need that second pass!
