Help, I need an excuse not to fit in!

I just started a new job in London with a small company. Ive been getting on well with everyone and yesterday the director asked me if Id be growing a beard for November.

For those in parts of the world where this is not a custom, 'Movember' is basically where sometimes people sport a moustache/ beard throughout november until 1 months growth, often for charity within companies.

Naturally I said I liked being clean shaven. I didnt go as far as to tell him that being a straight shaver I hate beards and razors and shaving are pretty much a big hobby of mine!

The director told me its a company custom and they all do it, although I dont have to do it.

I told him mayb and we left it at that.

Question is, what do I do!?

I hate beards and even 4 days growth feel itchy and horrible! Maybe Ill have to use up all my annual holiday entitlement and just escape for a month!

Any suggestions?

As much as I would love to be part of this long standing office ritual my religiuos beliefs do not allow for the growth of facial hair blah, blah, blah

I know jews cant shave above their temples or wet shave at all - their not supposed to anyway, and islamic people and sikhs grow beards, but which religion forbades it?

Bart, good idea, but I wouldnt be able to pull it off...Movember means moustache, I said beard because people sometimes grow extended moustaches with handlebars etc so it looks like a beard...

I did this last year and full beards were against the rules. It is more about the moustache. I would really encourage you to take part. It is alot of fun to see who can and can't grow an impressive mo

Just say you're not a very hairy person, and you've never been able to grow any sort of real facial hair. say you're a bit embarrassed about it and have been laughed at in the past. besides, nobody likes a patchy employee

The irony of a shaving forum raising money and growing mustaches. HA!
I think it would be a valuable experience for each of us to do this.
Think of how much more you would appreciate your shaving hobby!
Think of how much better your technique would be after getting around the hedges of your month-old-man-stache!

I say we brainstorm how to raise money and for what charities to donate to (heck, the charity of saving our own wallets and the disaster relief they would feel after one month of no AD buys) I say we each grow a mustache in November.
Don't get me wrong gentlemen, do not forget the great culling which would inevitably result on midnight, December 1st, as whole stands of hair are mowed down in the most satisfactory shave in recent memory. Imagine it!
