A Theoretical Question.
If someone had a straight razor shaving contest where you competed with others to get the best shave in the fastest time with any mishap knocking you out and you could win a cash prize would you enter? Why or why not and how much would the prize have to be?

I don't think I would enter.
I am a slow methodical shaver. I probably could do a fast shave, and I have, but my beard grows very flat on my face and stretching is essential for me to get a good BBS shave. I have seen some really fast shavers on you tube - and I couldn't compete with them. - although, who knows how good their shave was because it's mostly for show. I think the decision would depend on shaving technique combined with a fine beard that pretty much grows straight out.
It's slow and easy for me.

I wouldn't enter either.
On the odd occasions when I am running late for work I switch and use my Merkur DE because I slashed myself twice trying to rush a straight shave one morning..!
I'm not scared of the razors edge, but I am aware of its sharpness and its potential to damage my face! I like to be able to concentrate and take my time as needed rather than rushing and potentially injuring myself.

I would enter for free because I like competition and don't mind scars

Let's see. Shave myself in a contest?
No, I would not be interested. Too much variation in beards, and faces, and blades. Even if someone won, who would know whether they were better at shaving, or just had an easy face and beard to shave.
My face has too many sharp angles, and my skin even though not overly tender, it becomes irritated if I hurry the shave. So, I wouldn't win no matter what.
Invariably, when I watch videos of shaving where the shave is rapidly done, the face is filled out well and the edges are relatively smoother than mine.
I was reading an old-time book about barbering the other day. Someone in the early 1900s claimed the world's record for shaving "tons" of people over the course of a day. I don't remember the number. But, it was about one per minute as I recall.
No thanks! But, I'm impressed nonetheless.

Thanked: 31Nope. As posted elsewhere, shave time is for me; I do compete, but only against yesterday's shave. Due to my schedule, I need to shave quickly (and when I first started it was a concern about which I posted here at SRP) but I'm plenty fast enough now and I couldn't justify competition solely for the sake of competition.

As much as I like Competition, I don't think this is something that you want to do in record time, sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

The real question you have to ask yourself is how confident are you in your skills. True, each of us has easier or harder beards to shave but either way we should be skilled with our own since we shave all the time.

I'd do it even for a little bit of a prize... I don't think I'd be able to win, but I'd give it a go, what's the worst that could happen?
