Thanked: 0Best reaction from a non-str8 shaver?
Just been shaving for 8 months now, but I've had some really great reactions from friends and family when I tell them I shave with a straight. Either people think I'm crazy, or it's the coolest thing ever.
So I've got to ask:
What's the best, funniest, or just most memorable reaction you've ever gotten from a non shaver?

Most people think I'm crazy and don't understand why I don't just use a disposeable. If they only knew what they are missing, oh well.

The guys that found out think I'm crazy.
The women that know think it's cool is a scary way. They seem to like sharp things.

Never met anyone who thinks it's anything other than stupid. The only time I talk to anyone who might consider it themselves is online.

I get a mix of reactions. The usual one is as the other posters have said; "Are you mad? You'll cut yourself!"
I've been called a nerd a few times as well for getting all excited about how sharp I can hone a razor...
People just dont understand what they're missing! :-)

Most folk shave, even the ladies shave their legs.
Shaving is not normally something that comes up in conversation. Most of my close friends are used to me and expect the unusual.
The best reaction has probably been the gift of an unused 7/8 G Myers one of my friends saw on sale in a shop and thoughtfully bought for me.'Living the dream, one nightmare at a time'

"are you stupid? Why would you want to do that to yourself?"
everyone else just thinks it's cool then drops the subject.

I've discussed this one before. We have one friend (a husband of a childhood friend of my wifes) who is quite a "manly" man. Lives DEEP in the woods, in a house he built himslef after teaching himself how to do solar, and wood heat, while living in an old hunting cabin on the proprty. COnverts old landrovers to run on bio-fuels on his own, and makes his own fuel. Hunts, camps, has a beard and wears carhardts and flannels, even in the city. he also happens to be brilliant.
He's a great guy, and I enjoy hanging out with him very much. I enjoy the woods, and guns, but they are hobbies to me, not "life."
He found out I shaved with a straight and said to his wife, almost sheepishly, something along the lines of "Wow...see, now he's a REAL man." If I wasn't such a "real" man....I would have blushed. Instead, I just said basically, "Eh, it's no big deal...great shaves, though...if you ever want to get rid of the beard, let me know."

Women seem more interested than men. Most of the men think of shaving as a chore and don't understand why I don't use the latest and greatest wizz bang vibrating 5 bladed monstrosity or an electric.
The women that know are split among those that may have watched a grandfather or other relative shave with a straight, and those that think it is just a cool hobby.
