I use a small hand towel folded on the counter. I put the razor there with the mug and brush above it near by on the counter. When the razor it not in use it goes on the towel to keep in from getting nicked.

I have a cloth baby diaper (hasn't been used in 11 years) to first wet my face then to clean the cream and stubble off my razor. When I finish the first pass I turn the diaper inside out (since it is folded) place the razor on it and re-lather. Therefore It has truly seen two things smooth as a baby's butt.

Like CRR, I just leave it on the counter, cleaned, stropped and ready to shave for when I get out of the shower. The dry shaving towel is a great and safe place IMO.

I pretty much close it and put it carefully down on the counter, or, if the scales look damp, leave it open on a towel.

But there are youngin's in the house, so I try to put everything away right after I'm done with it, for obvious reasons.

Anyone ever have a child try to play with one of your straights? I've showed them to my kids and told them never to touch them without me being there. I put them away when I'm not using them, but a determined child could get access to them. I don't lock them up or anything like that.

Early on, probably during the first week of my conversion to the straight path , while I was shaving my 7-year-old daughter burst into the bathroom. I flinched and gave myself a shallow nick that fortunately began to immediately bleed like nobodys business. I say fortunately, because my daughter saw what happened and was stopped dead in her tracks. I took the opportunity to teach her about the importance of safety with regard to daddy's razors. Needless to say, I had her rapt attention. This episode has had the added benefit of giving me total isolation (from my daughter at least) while shaving in the morning. Unfortunately my wife is not so easily trained .

I also have two kids at home, my son is 12 and wasn't my worry My daughter is 6 however and I was worried about it. Last night she wan't to see all my razors. I showed her them and explained to her how sharp they were. She has seen me cut a few times in the last year and understands how dangerous they can be. Now if only I would learn.

RichZ/CRR, I fully agree with your tactics.
I handle the couriosity over the razors the same way I do my firearms: I show them to the kids, I show them how they work and what they do, and then I let the kids handle them under my supervision to get some "hands on" time and that pretty much satisfies the extreme curiosity. They know those are my toys, and they are dangerous and if they want to see them, all they have to do is ask. I've gone and dug out my .356Winny more than once just to let our oldest hold it for a little while and compair it to his Red Rider haha... it's amazing what taking a few minutes of your time wil do for a kids couriosity. If you satisfy it early on, your reducing the likelyhood of an accident exponentially.

The kid's love the hanging hair test by the way they get this big ole'grin when they can see the hair just drop off out of site.. and then you relate to them that the same thing can happen with their finger

I use two towels per shave. One is for prepping my face and wiping the blade. The other (dry) is for getting a good grip for skin stretching, and drying off the blade. I rest the blade on the dry towel or on a cake of Colonel Conk that's sitting on my counter.

The kid thing is starting to gnaw at me a bit. I have been VERY clear in my admonitions, but I fear that curiosity will get the best of them some day. I think Kelly probably has the right approach for guns and razors. Is that a band?
