I talked to a barber today and he told me by law he can't use his straights. I'm in Massachusetts. Two ideas: Couldn't scales be made to withstand sterilizing? or (stolen from an earlier post in this thread) We have our own straights at the barbershop like they did with shaving mugs and brushes. He said he's used straights for years but I didn't think to ask if I brought mine in he'd shave me. Always wanted to have it done by an "expert" and not with a shavette. I just figured AOS used a regular straight. Duh, not in this day and age.

Talked to the owner of the shop that I go to and he said by California law they are not allowed to use real straights or brushes. Anything that "touches the customer's face" must be disposable. He uses a lather machine instead of a brush. I can't even bring in my own straight to use on me.
Go figure!

Yeah my barber uses a disposable blade too. It is not the same but that I believe is the law. Whatever no one is going to rally behind having it repealed.

The barber by my house still does straight razor shaves. That is who I got my two razors from. So if you are ever in Hamilton, Ontario lol there is a place with a Str8 shave for $10 Canadian. Which is 9.5813 U.S. dollars, GO GO CDN economy.

Thanked: 0I understand that one can get a great straight razor shave at the spa at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. I am not sure whether or not it is a disposable or not.

Man, if I could get a haircut and shave for $10 or $15 I'd be in heaven. Even $15 for just a haircut sounds inexpensive these days.
