A good review takes some thought & I find it quite hard work. That'll be why I do them so infrequently.

Nonsense, Ben. Review writing is fun. And we have both How to write a good review and Review templates. Granted, beefing one up with pictures takes a bit more time, but writing a review that is actually meaningful takes all of ten minutes, maximum.

    Robin

Writing a review is boring like library.

Robin, I agree completely with your rant and you write the best reviews which are the standard for all others, your reviews are both informative and fun to read without being overly long which is exactly as a review should be.

What else irritates me is mucking up the reviews forum with general comments or comments or other posters reviews which are not reviews.

    Keep your reviews coming.

Here is my take on reviews, wiki articles and general posting on SRP or elsewhere. Not everyone who comes up to bat will hit a home run but if they're on the team they ought to have a right to take a shot at it. Comments on reviews should be linked to the discussion forum as they do add needless clutter.

I have to make notes while I shave.

I'm sure if I did the number you do I could rattle them off. I think I just might tackle a couple though. Notes on the mirror in lipstick could be the answer!

Well, we always have the author rating and the member rating. I usually check on who is the author first. But yeah i agree with you. I've been using straight razors doing now 1 year. I've shave with many razors and i've always compared them to each other, trying to understand and feel the diference, reading about them to see if i agree or not. Only know i'm starting to hone them..baby steps on this one..and i don't feel comfortable / feel that i have knowledge enought to start a review..to be the author of a review! That is more important, for me, then a member review, like i did in the Filarmonica EPBD, that works like "i agree or not" with the author!
For some, a kitchen knife will do it fine, and will be the best razor ever. Lucky of them! They will always get a BBS! (There will be always the problem that "what works for you, may not work for me".)

    Regards, Filipe

    Thought's about reviews?

It's about where reality meets the theoretical side of life.

How many guys do we have who are lurkers who won't join because they don't even want to post short responses on the forum?

How many members won't start a thread?

How many members really never post anything at all?

How many just don't like to write anything at all for a variety of reasons?

When you get to those issues first then you can talk about writing reviews and then good reviews. This has been a long running issue here and I don't see any solutions.

I think part of the issue is how members view their relationship to the site and I think it's similar to when I do the shaving brainbuster each week and usually end up with a question and often times give things away. It's all done in fun yet the reponses are few to nil.

It's all part of the same equation.

    spendur,

I've always thought I'd make a fine lurker, but for the life of me can't keep my tongue in check.

Bruce, you can't keep your tongue in check because you keep your tongue in cheek.
