Thanked: 335spendur,
I've always thought I'd make a fine lurker, but for the life of me can't keep my tongue in check.

Thanked: 195Personally, I think someone needs to lighten up. The purpose of any forum is to exchange information, ideas and opinions. Reviews are totally subjective regardless of who writes them. What works perfectly for me may not work at all for someone else, and as adults, we should all understand this. Sniping at people because you don't believe they are qualified to state their own opinion or because you don't like their writing style does not aid in a free exchange of ideas.
If you don't like someone's posts, then don't read them. If you don't believe someone is qualified to write a product review, then don't base your buying decision on their review. But don't publicly mock them in an open forum. I personally enjoy seeing how excited some people get about discovering a new hobby. I believe the purpose of this forum is to foster that excitement, not ridicule it.
Regards,
Mark

Yes, yes and yes ...Ya vol Robin. The reviews are very important for a Noob like me...It's the compass by which I judge what kind(s) of str8, cremes, soaps etc, I should be getting. When I started out str8 shaving, it was my baseline.
Rating scales are essential and critical components of a review...I don't even bother with those reviews that don't have them.
Personally, I see the rank the reviewers is 3 tiers (all reviewers should include the rating scale):
1º reviewer: this one does the elaborate review of the product and compare it to other product(s) where appropriate, if possible. Picture are great and a huge plus.
2º reviewer: Also elaborate, maybe to a lesser extent compared to 1º reviewer...Validates or disputes the primary reviewer's points - this is helpful in decision making for the rest of us.
Third and subsequent reviewers: less elaborate but will discuss the generalities. Argue or discuss some points raised (or missed) by 1º or 2º reviewer.
But, that's me...

I posted a review on a Joseph Fenton & Sons I just got and really like before reading this thread. I removed my review while declaring myself unworthy after 29 years of straight razor use. I don't think I fit the criterian set forth for posting a review so I bowed out gracefully. Like some, I like putting things in prospective as well.

Personally I prefer that sort of review to remain in the discussion forums
Starting a thread titled "This stuff rocks!!!!" is one great way to participate in the forums, because people notice who the author is, what they like, and folks can go back and forth forever on what the best stuff really is.
It is also important to keep concise, helpful reviews set aside for those who who are searching for detailed information as opposed to a meandering discussion. Guiding criteria for this kind of review is a boon for all our members. When I need that kind of review, I go to the reviews section of SRP
So to me, there is a place for every kind of review someone wants to make. If there is an issue with something that is not helpful and out of place, a moderator can be contacted. It really isn't necessary to get one's panties all up in a wad over it either way but hey, I guess that is part of what makes interaction with each other interesting never a dull momentLast edited by hoglahoo; 06-02-2010 at 07:08 PM.

Sometimes I just want to tell the world that MWF IS THE BEST!!!!1!! and SRP is a place I can do that and people won't look at me weird. At least, not too weird. If you want to look for information about a product in the discussion forums, then wading past discussion is going to be part and parcel
I agree with your other points in the context of the review sectionLast edited by hoglahoo; 06-02-2010 at 07:54 PM.
