I don't read reviews so forgive me for asking, but, it sounds like it would be good to simply include what other products that are similar to the reviewed product that the poster has tried.

Do we ask for this in the review?

So, for example, I bought a World Master razor and it is the best razor ever. The other razors I have tried include TI and Dovo.

Taylor's Almond is my favorite cream, the others I have tried include . . .

Excellent point, James. Which is why it is suggested to profile, not speculate. The problem with drawing a broader inference from a single sample is one that can hardly be solved, but software allows for averages of ratings given by all reviewers, thus making up for that to a certain extent.

What bothers me, though, is the growing number of reviews that do not provide sufficient data to be properly evaluated by the reader.

    Thanks, James,
    Robin

    People
x.y.f.t can review the soaps and b.d.f. h cannot because they don't have enough experience?
what makes you experienced person on telling your opinion about soaps(i brought you example?)
    your membership on srp?
your experience using that particular soap?
how someone knows you have used 100 different soaps?
You may be used all your life tabac and love tabac and others don't like it ?
You can use 100 different soaps but you don't have a good Scent ?
or your quality of choosing soap is not good enough for others?
Some person can use soap for a months and have a lot better idea and more helpful then person used for years.
    Depends on Person.
Just let the people say their own opinion. that is all.
I brought censorship because i understand you are trying to put words to peoples mouth.
..hmmm! Good point! I also agree with your perspective!

..at some point, it seems like we are discussing the gender of the angels.

Not in the review per se, because the software does not allow for that. But the review writing guideline has an example:
This is a review for the Foobar Razor, produced by ACME Inc. in 1932. I will give you an overview of its characteristic features, share my experience of three months’s use of the razor, and compare it to SRP’s benchmark razor in this class, the Barfoo Razor made by Joe Random.
You're making an excellent point here, though, and it should go into the revised version of the guideline.

    Thanks, Alan,

That is exactly the point. I bought two products based on a stylistically well written but completely misleading and incorrect review provided by the owner of another shaving forum (who also, incidentally, put serious doubts about the quality of Wacker and Böker razors into my mind when I had just started with straight razor shaving). These reviews are still in place there, and I am quite convinced that they still lead beginners in the wrong direction. I am convinced we can do better than that. In fact, we are doing better than that, but there is always room for improvement

    Thanks,
    Robin

We're justr rehashing the same old things like we have since the current review system was establiushed. If there are any ideas on how to modify the review writing process to improve the current outcome that will be discussed amongst the mod staff.

    I'm closing this thread.
