    Default straight razor manufacturers

Are there any other major European or American manufacturers of straight razors besides Dovo and TI? It seems like the worldwide demand for straights would be large enough to support more than two manufacturers. But I have not been able to find anything other than a few very specialized people who make VERY expensive custom razors.

I believe Dovo and TI are the only companies still producing razors in any quantity (Except for the Zeepk, Kamisori, and "Rockwell Solingen crap, made in Pakistan). I believe all the German brands, such as Timor, have all their blades forged in the same shop. Looks like those are your options. On the bright side, there's a plethora of old razors still around. Contact John Crowley at Shavingshop.com, or mr. barence on Ebay. They still have a lot of NOS razors, including Revisors, which are superior shavers.

    VERY Expensive?

Here's something you can consider. It's much cheaper:

Just because you or I want a straight razor does not mean there is now a "worldwide demand" for them. My guess is that if the demand were there, it would happen. Wow! How bout starting your own company? You could sell them for $50 apiece and make a killing. I'll be first in line...

And is that actually any good? To me it seems a bit silly since I'm from the Netherlands and I'm pretty sure that's not a "Dutch" company....sure it's not pakistani or maybe american and trying to use "Dutch" for marketing purposes?

Bill, would you really shave with that razor? Well, at least more than once?

Well, sport, you are absolutely right. It's not a Dutch razor. It's a dutch auction, which only means there is more than one razor available.

    • Does anyone have a cheap shave ready razor that I could purchase for a low price just to get started properly?
    • ...anything around 20 euro's (25 or so dollars) would make me happy...
    • Anyway. I was just wondering if anyone had one left that they would sell for less than a leg...
    • I find it kinda hard to believe that NO-one here has a spare one. I'll just work on getting my crappy ones better then
besides....I would pay about $50 a piece for a starters DOVO.
    Make up your mind, LX...
    Here's one for $60 http://store.yahoo.com/nashvilleknif...fsolstra1.html

And, of course, Randy, you know I wouldn't shave with it at all. Just illustrating that once in a while, you get what you pay for.

I didn't mean that I (as in me) am going to BUY a Dovo...I meant that if I wanted to buy one...I could buy one for about 50 dollars over here in the Netherlands. So far I've just about spent enough money on razors for a while..I'll work on shaving without cutting myself for now rather than buying more of them (but I have to admit it IS rather tempting).
After all yesterday I got the closest shave of my life....just got nicked a few times and got a bit of razor burn on the throat...(I think it's because the cheap soap I use (have been using I'll try a different one tomorrow) dries out too fast.)

    LX...

My attempts at humor get skewed sometimes... I was only razzing.

I believe humor is a way of making a point without drawing blood. Sometimes people just don't know if I am kidding or not. Probably cause I'm only good at it part of the time.

That's ok. I wasn't offended. I thought you had a good point were it not that you misunderstood. Don't worry, no hard feelings.
