Wedding day shave dilemma!
Ok here is the dilemma. I have not touched another type of razor since I started straight shaving, but I am worried that even if I am extra careful and take it extra slow I could still get bad nick or cut on the day of the wedding that will be noticeable in all the pictures. I would feel like I was cheating on my straights with a 2 cent whore if I used my DE again, and my barber shop is so far away from my house (2 hours, dont ask), that I just dont have the time with the summer beach traffic on that day. I am going to be in northern jersey / new york and I cannot find a barbershop salon or anything else that even offers straight shaves...so I dunno what to do...any suggestions?

Trust in the razor - it is your ally.

Do you cut yourself with your str8 on a regular basis? If not then it is unlikely that you will cut yourself, unless you plan on being a basket case that day. Try to shave as if it's any other day. If you think your nerves will cause a cut, than by all means use a DE. Just my $.02

I have only really cut myself once or twice, but I still get nicks in certain areas and thats on an almost regular basis.

Been there. Faced that. Wussed out.
JL,
I faced the same dilemma 6 years ago. Then, I lacked confidence and went with (forgive me O ye Gods of Solingen and Sheffield) the Mach Thrice.
Good news: no nicks or cuts.
Bad news: In all the pictures of the grand day I look like I didn’t shave at all. I also look scared out of my wits but that’s another story…
Congratulations and I suspect at the appointed hour you won’t be thinking about your whiskers either way
Regards &C

My suggestions
Don't have the stag night the evening before, do get up nice and early, think calm and collected, let the Best man do any racing about (thats his job),Pamper yourself, take plenty of deep breaths & give yourself a damn fine shave.
Start as you mean to go on JL. (thats for the shaving & your life with your lady).
Oh, and many congratulations on your upcoming Marriage, I sincerely hope that you have a long, fruitful & happy life together.

Allow yourself about one hour of bleeding time, then scratch off the scabs!!! I tried the Clubman liquid styptic this morning at it worked well. Give it a shot. Classic sells them.
One other thought: allow your beard to grow for a day and a half. The hairs will stand up and get softer which will give you a closer, more comfortable shave with no nicks.
Good luck and congrats.

My advice is to load a fresh blade in your DE razor, tune down the dial, if there is one, and enjoy the shave. I hope you are giving your best man a straight razor for a present, that's how I got my first one!

No, I hadnt thought of that! I have gotten him a handmade leatherbound journal (he is really into his journals) and I was going to get him a really nice pen to go with it...perhaps I should give him the journal and a straight razor?? They dont really go together though.

Well, better ask him first... My friend didn't though of it either, he asked me what I want...
