Close. It's actually a dead calf but the effect is still there. I like the movie because it was actually filmed in 1929 so there's a little more authenticity to his use of a straight as opposed to all the spaghetti westerns.

Just goes to show ya that all hell breaks loose when you back-hone a razor.

In the Legend of Zorro, there's two government guys and one of them is shaving with a straight at one point. I've only seen the movie once, so I don't remember any details.

My wife and I just watched LADIES IN LAVENDER starring Maggie Smith and Judi Dench as two sisters living in Cornwall just before WWII. They rescue a young Polish man who fell overboard and nearly died in the sea. They care for him, and in one scene he lathers w/ a brush & mug and uses a straight razor. Unfortunately neither the actor nor director had a clue. He scrapes his face holding the razor at a 90 degree angle and swishes the razor in the wash basin to rinse it. Lynn needs to job himself out as a special shaving consultant for films & TV and collect some of that big entertainment money!

Not to hijack the thread, but what's wrong with swishing the razor in the basin, as long as you're careful not to touch the sides of the sink? Seems like as long as you don't dip the pivot, you're not hurting anything... no?

Well, I for one wouldn't want to take the chance of hitting the edge against the sides or bottom of the wash basin. The young man in the film was not paying attention to what he was doing either; talking to the sisters and focused on them and not the razor.

THE safe way to clean your razor of soap and whisker buildup is simply to wipe it on a towel. I have rinsed my old Track II's under water for years so I just instinctively did this with the striaght and have had no problems. If this is wahat you're used to, I doubt it waill cause you much grief.
