Thanked: 1Norther Exposure Season 3, Episode 13...Holling Vincoeur (John Cullum) recieves a rather nasty swipe with a straight razor (my opinion) from the local barber as he hears the news of the death of an Uncle. Occurs around 8 minutes in and this is the setup...Hot towel followed by what appears to be can cream applied by hand (no brush? baaaaad barber...no..no...) The first two strokes seemed natural enough but he moved (because of the news) on the third stroke making it look like a killer chance for some needless blood shed. Interestingly enough the barber starts the shave by using strokes WITH THE GRAIN! Far as I'm concerned that puts this a notch above in my book for realism. Obviously not a detail most would notice but WE would right guys?
I know it's not a movie but it IS an example of straight shaving on film...albeit the small screen.Last edited by Gawker; 05-26-2006 at 07:04 AM.

Yeah, I noticed that, but the technique is totally wrong, the razor was at 90° to the face lol

Thanked: 67Spotted one in the 1990 film 'Misery' - the character played by Kathy Bates shaves the James Caan character with a huge square-point straight. Very high angle on the first stroke but much better from then on.
Only get this, she then totally blots her copybook by giving him an electric razor! Duh!

Just saw the trailer for the new James Bond movie, "Skyfall" and it shows a scene of a girl shaving Bond with a straight.

I just noticed a scene in Robin Hood. Mark Strong (Godfrey) is dry shaving with a knife.
Using the 90 degree movie technique. Fail!

My first big impression of using a straight razor...Sweeny Todd-The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, with Johnny Depp. saw it years ago but just deciding to pick it up now. Iguess it really planted a seed.
Most recently however, the main character in Boardwalk Empire (HBOs period drama set in 1920's Atlantic City) was shown shaving, however he was holding it with the blade totally perpendicular to his face!!!
And yes as stated above i saw the scene in "Skyfall" as well. Sweet maybe when all the guys see that Bond uses one, more people will jump on board. I mean comon, whos cooler than Bond, and he does it.
