Cool video thanks for the link. It puts a new meaning to those that flare the pins over the collars with a spoon and use up to a hundred taps or more.

Bill, few hard hits with a hammer does not mean the guy is doing good job... I've dismantled more than one razor with crooked pins at the pivot. I'll still be using my spoon, and slowly taptaptaptaptaptaptaptap my pins...

    Thanks Nenad,
I also have taken apart some razors that the pins are bent or even flared into the scales and are very hard to get out.
I just thought it was funny when I saw that and then remembered people using a spoon to flare the pins and watching this guy do it with a big hammer. Kind of funny actually.

One thing Jürgen (my friend) pointed out to me that I missed was that they coat the blade with graphite powder prior to the lead bath so that the lead doesn't stick to the blade. My german is good enough that I got the basic gist of most of what they were saying but that part sailed right past me.

Yep, I noticed that the third time I watched the video. Now, the interesting part is when the guy is hitting the rack with the razors on the side of the bath to shake off the graphite coating. I think there lies the DOVO's problem with warped blades. They are never sure that they removed all of the graphite of the blades before they go to the quenching bath. The graphite excess acts like clay coating on japanese swords: If there is more graphite on one side than the other, that side will cool slower and warp the blade in one direction (the oposite one)...

    Tony & Nenad,
I just looked at the video again and they do straighten the blades right after the heat treating.

Tony, the fellow is "straightening" the blades after the HT process... Now, he is doing that with hammer smaller than that guy's who is tapping the pins, and with such small force he couldn't straigten a brass pin. That is the step that is the most confusing moment for me in the whole video. I believe that is the video DOVO also shows to their comissioners, and it's the " there is no warpage at the blade, here's our guy correcting it" part... Now, maybe this is for the TV, and after the razors have been baked, but
