Should We Have More Membership Levels??
Who thinks we should have more membership levels....here is a hypothetical example:
barber 0 posts
Junior member 10 posts
member 30 posts
senior member 100 posts
executive member 1500+ posts
presidental member 2500+ posts
I am just taking my mind off of work and it got me thinking...so maybe I just have to much free time

Thanked: 346I voted no, but I do think the current levels are bunched too closely. Maybe spread them out by 100 pts...

I don't think we should turn this place into some high falutin organization where a bunch of posts is supposed to translate into some degree of wisdom. It just means some guys post more than others and that doesn't always equate with any experience or ability. I personally think the post count is enough and I wouldn't mess with the titles as they are but if you want to maybe we should have the king and the prince levels and maybe someone can be a duke or marquis of shaving personally I'd be satisfied being the lord of shavers and off course the newbees can be called citizen shavers! Just don't call anyone the queen except maybe those guys who shave naked!

I'm just thrilled seeing Stropmeister next to Senior Member on mine.
Thanks to whoever made the change. This is the first time I noticed it!

Thanked: 4IMNSHO, don't base any rankings on post counts. I'm a member of a few other forums that do this, and they're rife with extremely short posts. For example: :-)
I don't want to see this forum go there. Whatever the decision, it will not affect my own posting (in)frequency.

Thanked: 0I don't see the need for more levels. But I think there needs to be a bigger spread. There's no way I need to be "Honemeister". It could give the wrong impression that I know something.(or rather more than I do)

I'm not a huge fan of ranks. I dislike them so much the function is disabled on the forum I setup for the dojo.
It's like in the martial arts: the belt is just what holds your pants up. The color doesn't matter to a real student.

I don't understand why we would want to do that. As it is the post count and associated rankings don't seem to mean very much now. Some relatively new guys just like to interact a lot, and some very knowledgable ones don't.
I've seen here what seems to be a facility for rating posts. It seems to me that a meaningful grading could be obtained through that. I'm not sure how you'd do it. I'm just thinking out loud.
Then, there are guys here who don't post a lot, but put in a lot of time making this place work. Wouldn't we want to upgrade them for that.
I guess what I'm saying is the grading system could be lot more meaningful, and probably a lot more complicated than it is now. We really don't need a ranking system based only on post count. The poster's count is right there in every message. Do you get any more information from a rank?
Now, can somebody tell me what the stars mean? they used to give them out in kidergarten for good behavior. I never got any then.
