can we use several different barber's hones? my pike cuts differently than my axolite which is still different from my boss barber and so on.

So i have decided on just one razor for the month, i shave daily. the razor "Rudolf Stehlo Solingen Rostfrei" was in need of a good honing so i took it to my 2k glass shapton to get it started. then on to barber's hones. All the barber's hones have been lapped on dmts 325, 600 and 1200 and i used the back sides for the honing.

started with the one that feels coarsest to my fingers an axolite #200 with water, gave it 300 circles and then 500 laps and it was tugging at the arm hairs.

moved to the "boss barber" also with water, 450 laps and it was cutting arm hair at the skin level.

switched to the krystolo (a norton pike product) with water (although the directions say use it dry) 325 laps and it was mowing arm hair above the skin.

decided to test shave with it and although the edge was sharp and shiny it was not quite ready. i had only tried one area of my face. so i stopped.

75 more laps on the krystolo dry this time followed by 20 laps on my smallest hone "Extra fine razor hone manufactured expressly for particular people" with water then a return to the shave.

was comfortable on the WTG and XTG, the ATG was not great. wound up with some burn on the neck.

for the rest of the month i will limit myself to the krystolo.

Today i gave the Stehlo 30 more laps on the krystolo... 3 pass shave, no burn. the edge is nearly perfect. I'll use it again tomorrow without any more trips on the hone.

nice sounds like its just u and me doing this this month. im using my laudies barber hone it leaves a buttery edge with only a few strokes. tonight after work id like to sharpen up a cheap china razor on it for some practice.

The stehlo performed well tuesday to saturday... but saturday it started to pull a bit on the chin. so this morning 10 laps on the krystolo, dry... a nice BBS 3 pass shave again.

    enjoy,
    jim
