I second that coz I can't think of anything better. I don't go to church, I don't pray (unless I'm shot at) and I don't give a hoot for anyone's religion per see, however this time of year is for giving and sharing any warmth one might have for mankind.

Oh yeah..it's also the time to get totally rat-arsed, stuff yourself full of xmas tidings and overdo the amount of chocolate and everything else unhealthy. hic !

Tony, we'll be putting on our lights about a week before Catholic Christmas and keeping them at least until the Orthodox Christmas. Our family is either Catholic, Orthodox or atheist.
I try to put something personal into every gift that I give, depending on how much I care about the recipient and I always like to put some actual work into it instead of just flashing my Visa (R). That helps me achieve 2 goals:
1) Show that I really care (and those are the gifts I REALLY appreciate receiving)
2) Rebel against commercialism (for Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day etc etc etc).

Our decorations will be going up on the 1st December - always have.
My wife is just nuts about Christmas! (Even now that the kids have flown the nest)

Then you better not tell her that some of our neighbors put up their lighting in mid-October, unless you like paying big electrical bills, that is

Thanked: 1587Hot.
We've tried to change the "white christmas" perception in Australia, but it's a hard task, what with all the movies and songs etc. My mother still does the full roast lunch for Christmas, even in 35 centigrade. But that's fine with me, it's tradition after all.
I'm heading over to the UK for a week on Monday, so I might get a bit of a white Christmas preview...
But I'd like to reiterate Peter's original message - sure, it might be a bit early for Christmas/Holiday wishes, but it's never too early to wish people good fortune, health and best wishes. So, all the best to you and yours.

Thanked: 1587Thanks for the heads up Frank - I've been wondering what to pack. Oh well - I'll be stuck inside at a conference most of the time anyway.
My wife and I lived in Oxford for 3 years , from Nov. 1999. We had white Christmases every year we were there, which the locals told me was very unusual for that part of the country. Not as unusual as it was for people from our part of the world!
