Bad publicity is still publicity. My farrier use to say that. People forget the bad but remember you. Those that feel so wronged over trivial things will feel it time and time again. I understand your wanting to clear the air but I don't think it's necessary in here. Those that matter consider the source of the bashing. Everybody has there own reputation :<0)

Several years ago I registered at B&B under a different screen name. It has been so long since I logged in that I can't remember my member name or password. So much for B&B..............

Here my similar experience over a year after Lynn's original post:

After years of happy DE shaving (hence my connection to B&B), I eventually switched to straight shaving a few months back and had asked on B&B which Friodurs were worth collecting as the newer ones were - according to a professional hone-master - difficult to hone and did not take an edge easily.

This was something that Lynn had mentioned when I sent him an NOS Friodur that I had bought on a trip to Vienna, Austria - although I had not mentioned Lynn's name at this stage.

Some replies were reasonable, some replies totally ignored the fact that I had never said that ALL Friodurs were difficult to hone and were singing endless praises of Friodurs without ever getting to my point.


One of the dominating (domineering??) members accused the (then still unmentioned) hone-master of being totally ignorant of his craft and probably trying to hone with bricks.

Really helpful, I thought....
To establish that this info had come from a trustworthy source, I eventually made the mistake to mention SRD and Lynn's name.

Bad move.
Totally ignorant of this thread and the previous history, I was taken aback of the animosity that flared up from some members.



This was all supposed to be about Friodurs and how to pick the better ones and avoid the ones that gave more trouble than they were worth.

On B&B apparently not....

BTW, Friodurs?
Got 4 now and with the exception of the one late model that Lynn had cautioned me about they are all vintage - meaning great - shavers.

I have read the entire thread. I came to this Forum first and instantly felt a connection. That is based on both tone of exchanges and visual look (I am a visual artist). Out of curiosity a few months later I checked out B&B which immediately gave me partial visual confusion for it's visual look and it's content. My initial instincts were correct in choosing SRP.

I told one son that I had found a very, very, good forum that had civility in it. He replied, based on his experiences, "Wait, most of them are filled with people looking to make trouble." Hate, to disappoint him, he will be waiting a very long time for me to tell him he is right. I have found so many compatible people here, despite so many varied backgrounds and the like. If ever there were an international meeting of SRP I would overcome all my phobias and concerns about traveling and being a semi recluse and face the world to get there (unless the meet could be no more than 50 miles from me.)

The problem as I see it with shave sites other than SRP is you have power mongers,people that will cater to friends but not to the general members.
B&B is a great site,ruled by a few.Am not a member anymore but I still scan over it almost every day,lots of good info to be had sometimes.
Some sites run by former SRP members can be very informative,but if you disagree with the edicts of the site owner,you will be history.
I like the checks and balances here,they are very fair.JMO

The only decent thing about B&B is their B/S/T. Put something up for sale and it's like a Piranha attack...lol

I don't know for a fact but from what I have read Lynn is the person who really should be credited for introducing all of us to the pleasures of Wet Shaving as we know it whether it is with a straight razor or DE and for someone to bash him for an imaginary reason well that's like biting the hand that feeds you. From what I've been told he is the reason that a lot of these guys are in business in the first place. I started this reply with I don't know well I do know this much. Lynn is an honorable man and we a all better by knowing him in person or on this forum and like Forest said THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT.

Apart from the fact that we are, by and large, very civil and like to operate on a "gentlemanly" level I think people should bear in mind that online forums are public and laws relating to liable and defamation/slander can come into play.

Now I know (or at least hope) words would never be exchanged that lead to such actions being taken, but the potential is always there.

As for Lynn, I've never met him personally but I have a deep respect for all he has done and what he has achieved here. Honestly, from almost no information on straight razors when I first looked around (2005/6) to what we have today. He had/has an extraordinary vision and dedication and I hope he feels proud of what has developed, nurtured and achieved. And the best thing is, he's brought us along with him.

In Australia we have what's called "tall poppy syndrome". Check it out on Wikipedia - personally I feel it's a good description of what can go on sometimes.

What I never understand is how a forum based on shaving can get so ridiculously out of hand and full of argument. We're not talking about curing cancer here, its shaving. I get it when it comes to the more controversial topics in "The Conversation". But the rest of these topics? It scares me to think that so many irrational people are walking around with such sharp objects. I don't get it. Maybe its poor lathering technique.
